"Don't give up on Nintendo yet. Over the years, E3 has become increasingly less and less about the "gamers" and more about the stockholders and journalists. The new neutered E3 setup serves as testament to this.

Nintendo knows where it struck it rich, with the casual gamers, and it's shareholders know this. The strategy of expanding the market has resulted in Nintendo in an entire ocean of potential customers that have never before been exposed to videogames. So the purpose of this year's media briefing is simple and quite understandable.

Nintendo had to reinforce and remind the media and it's shareholders of their current marketing philosophy, as well as the new games that will sure to make millions for the this new market (whether or not you will enjoy Wii Sports 2 or Music, it'll sell millions). Nintendo's E3 media briefing is not meant for the gamer, it's meant for the shareholders and the media. It is to reinforce it's brand image for shareholders.

Shareholders will care about Wii Music, because it WILL cater to the brand new market and will make LOTS of money. Games that are more serious and complex will not really sway anything. While they are very important (on a personal note) they are not the big money makers (as compared to the likes of Wii Music) and they don't serve to expand the market and fit in with Nintendo's purpose at this E3 Media Briefing.

So what of all this? Simple. There ARE core titles in development, and you can expect them later this week or at a Nintendo established media event later this year. E3 was meant for a different purpose than what the core titles in development are for. Nintendo will unveil them, later because they aren't part of the Media Briefing.

Nintendo chose to not debut core games at this E3 Media Briefing, to make room for content that is meant for their shareholders and the media. The portion dedicated for the gamers will come later, cause they aren't necessarily under the same spotlight that's under the actual media briefing for the shareholders.

Think of the new E3 as it was meant to be, a Media Briefing, not a show spectacular with surprises at every turn. The whole reason for the E3 revamp was because the companies had realized they weren't really doing themselves any favors. It is not meant for the gamers only, it is meant for the shareholders, to pander their image to them.

tl;dr

The media briefing is supposed to be a summary of the current market philosophy for the shareholders, not the gamers. That portion will come later, when not under the mega spotlight.
