Exactly. Because, it's not so much a fear of the underwater, but rather, it's a fear of the unknown. You don't now why those shovels are there. Why are there no fish swimming through the cavern? You dont know, so it frightens you.

Also, the reason you aren't afraid of the top pic is because that is the typical picture you would expect to find when searching for underwater. There are many familiars in that image.

See, these:

I even was afraid to go underwater in Donkey Kong 64. and I hated the water level in Super Mario 64. I HATE UNDERWATER.

I relate to this 100%... Oh my.

Nope. Ever played Donkey Kong 64 or Super Mario 64? Underwater in those games SCARED me. And there where some fish in there.

The fear that plagues you is present upon me in the exact same way! I absolutely HATED Jolly Roger Bay... Oh my, yes... It was a most frightening experience.

I used to fear the unknown...but now, I crave it more than anything. It gives me a sense of adventure. I also used to be afraid of the end of the world or dying, but then I figured it'll have to happen eventually, so why waste life worrying about it {I actually find death exciting, now.}? Then, I used to be afraid of the dark, now I love it. Heights...I used to be afraid of them, but I outgrew that fear. But whenever I'm up high, I always have the strange urge to jump off. ._.

I have a social phobia, and I generally stay away from other people. I just feel uncomfortable around pretty much everyone; asides from my mom, dad, and my cats {Who aren't people, but you know.}. This ties in with my fear of being crowded. Ugh, I hate crowds.

Being dependent is yet another phobia I've got. I hate feeling like everyone has to help me. There's things I'm perfectly capable of doing on my own, and I feel smaller {Not literally. You should get what I mean.} when I can't do things myself.

My biggest fear is confinement. Not like being locked up...but having my future carved in stone. I don't like planning who I'm going to marry, what job I'm going to have, if I'm going to have kids, where I'm going to live, what kind of house I want...no. Honestly, I don't even want to have kids or get married. Too...confining. I want to keep my options open, feel free. The whole marriage-phobia kind of ties in with the fact I have a sex phobia. Don't care about it. :/

Losing my knowledge of myself is another fear I have. I've learned a lot about myself; because I'm an...introspective person. I know what I want from life; I know who I really am on the inside. My individuality; what makes me different, what makes me independent.

Um...yeah. That's all I can think of right now. There's other smaller phobias I have, but they're not too prominent. Just wanted to point out the big ones.

I have that exact same problem. When I played the first Banjo Kazooie and I went to that beach place, the ocean water area scarred the crap out of me. I was even scarred to get that jinjo right underneath where you start because of that shark. I would avoid that water level on Mario 64 by getting more difficult stars to compensate.

This was probably exclusive to me, but I got super scared and hated even going into the little pool of water on the side near the bridge outside Peach's Castle in Super Mario 64 because I'd always imagine that giant Cheep-Cheep...

What's wrong with pottery wheels? o___O;
And why ARE there shovels down there?

I have a phobia of being stuck in an elevator. Most of my other phobias I've gotten over.

Nope.

The idea is terrible, of being there in the cold, dark silence, floating helpless and alone. It's a pressing silence, and I'd be completely filled with mute terror.

My fears would be the dark, which I blame my brother for, making me watch horror movies when I was like 5 or something :<

Fear of closed spaces, but like REEEEEEALLY closed in spaces, like being locked in a broom closet.

Fear of premature death.

Fear AND fascination with the unknown, especially when it comes to ghosts and spirits. I have a ghost fetish love hearing, reading and seeing things about ghosts.

I also used to have a fear of thunder and lightning, but I mostly got over that.
