Exploration games, I just love them. The idea of wandering around and getting new abilities just appeals to me. I can't stand games where everything is available right away. I want a game to engage me, to keep me interested. These are more or less games that combine RPG and platformer elements, and if it works well, it's going to be a good game.
Genres I hate: 3-d shooters.
I love a game if it's good, really.
I also hate sport games. THE ONLY REASON FOR SPORTS IS EXERCISE. ANYONE WHO TURNS IT INTO A VIDEO GAME IS COMPLETELY MISSING THE POINT.
Shooters and exploration games, actually, are the only games I prefer in 2-d to 3-d. Everything else is better in 3-D, IMO.
Other genres I like are Platformers and RPGs, of which Exploration games actually take elements from.
After reading Tayl's post: For stories... I want them either great/amazing, or non-existent/near non-existent.
Unless the story is great and actually interests me, I'd rather just be left alone to enjoy the actual game. |

Genres I love: 2-d Beat 'em up, Game & Watch, Platforms. Genres I like: Action, Adventure, Puzzles, RPG, Fighters, Exploration, Rhythm, Sport, Rail Shooters, Board Party, and combination of any 2 or more of the above. Genres I don't really care about but is willing to give a try: FPS Genres I don't really like: Strategy. Genres I hate: 3-D rail platforms, real-life simulation.
It more-so depends on the game. I love River City Ransom and Mario and Star Fox and stuff, but I don't like games that involve blood and mature themes, for some reason. I also hate hate hatehatehate Sim games. It's too much stress. Same with Strategy games. I also hate 3-D Platforms that are on rail because it pretty much makes the whole 3-D pointless.

I only like Sports game if they are distinguished enough from the real thing, because, honestly, aside from being accessible to anyone (having friends or not), the real thing would be a better experience. |

Favorites: Adventure, Platformer, Puzzles, Point-And-Clicks, Shooters (if done right), Strategy games (even though I generally suck at them), Racing Games and RPGs.
Subjects of Resentment: Sports Games (I'm sorry, but I fail to see the attraction in pressing buttons for Wrestling, Football, or anything organized, for that matter), anything based on a movie or cartoon, and Horror-type games. |

Fave games: Menu based RPGS, 2D/3D platformers/Fighting games like dead or alive.
Dislike: most rpgs where you run around to attack, games based on other things, and non-mario sports games. The powerups and stuff make it less like the real life counterparts, and much more fun. |

LIKE: RTS-RPGS
HATE: TB-RPGS
RTS means Real Time Stratagy. TB means Turn Based.
Real Time Stratagy are RPGS where aren't forced to take turns. E.G TWEWY, SPM, Rune Factory.
Turn Based are RPGS where you take turns. Duh. E.G Golden Sun, PM, PM:TTYD. |

I'm a big fan of games set in WWII. I also enjoy FPS, any 2D sidescrollers, and simple puzzle games.
I don't really care for sports games and Survival Horror games. |

Favorite Genre: RPGs, as they have the most well-developed plots, and are the most complex. JRPGs usually have better plots, as Western RPGs usually have weaker ones (As they usually try to make open-ended worlds with scattered quests. It's hard to get excellence like Final Fantasy in WRPGs.)
Also, another thing, JRPGs have more well-developed and more strategic gameplay (Like Final Fantasy.) Button-mashing hack n' slashers are, unfortunately, more common in WRPGs.
In summary, JRPGs are all-around better titles.
Least Favorite Genre: Most casual games, like the crap that's piling up on the Wii. |
