I am completely, 100% serious when I say this:
This site was better off with the Dump.
Let's take a look at when the Dump was still here: Everyone got along. If someone got angry, they had a place to vent and spam, and it didn't hurt anyone. There was no flaming, no drama, no negativity. Digibutter was a happy community.
Fast-forward to today. The site may not be dying, but it's still in a mildly bad state. A lot of people are flaming others for no reason, drama is widespread, and people are generally unaccepting of others ideas and influences. A lot of people even go out of their way to make other member's Digilives miserable. The site is generally a hateful, drama-filled, angry shithole.
The Dump gave people a place to vent, to spam, and to keep it off the other forums. Without a place to vent about their daily lives (Which, as stupid as it sounds, people on Digibutter absolutely NEED to do or else they kill themselves or something), people take their hostility out on the other members. I'm sure many people will disagree with me, and just to tell you guys: I'm not saying the site is dying. Just that it in a bad state. I feel my descision is for the betterment of the community and the site as a whole.
tl;dr - Without a place to vent people will BAWWWWWW in all the other forums so Francis needs to bring back the Dump
Francis, I would also like to hear your input on this subject. If you read this post, please offer feedback on why you agree/disagree with this post. |

I couldn't agree more. I joined when the dump was around, but I left before it got nuked. Times were good then, really good. I came back after it was nuked...and it seemed like digibutter had started to slip into it's current state.
There needs to be an outlet for all the spam and flaming. Off-Topic's for casual topics, the Dump is for what the majority of what Off-Topic has become. Just one forum where people can get rid of all their spam and flame, which would keep it out of the other forums. |

The site didn't get worse because we lost the Dump. The site got worse because it "grew up". It couldn't handle the responsibility of all that flame and oppurtunity for spam, and took it personally/abused it. What used to be "You're kinda annoying. Shut up please." evolved into "Shut the hell up and GTFO. 90% of your posts make absolutely no sense at all, you obsess over Japan and anime in shit in every post, and you can't even type a sentence with proper grammar. We'd be better off without you, retard." And people took that seriously and got into flame wars and brought it out of the Dump and really hated each other, and in some cases themselves. It'd be nice to have a Dump again, but the skilled flamers, INTERNET SERIOUS BIZNESS people, immature people, and over-the-top spammers just can't handle that kind of responsibility. |

I thought digibutter was supossed to be a constructive site about role-play, discussion of rare and exotic nerrlectables (anime, video games, EVA's boobs, cartoons, etc.), and ranting about how much other sites' opinions suck. In other words, a gigantic playground, but with a table set out of the way for the tired people to talk serious things out. Now, there's going to be bullies at every playground, that's a given, but bullies can be dealt with the same way online they are IRL: talking their problems over, making them feel better, or getting them the fudge away from me.
Creating the dump is like letting those bullies win.
I say nah. Let's keep digibutter the way it is. If you wanna let your anger out, preach to Gamefags.
And really, the only thing this makes better is that the moronic flamers and spammers get away with flamming and spamming moronically. The so-called "dramatic" members all have friends that always support them through the tough times, while the bullies have moronic "zomg epicz". I really think that, while you're trying to cater to all, you're only catering to the ones who are starting the fire. |

There's one thing you forgot, which is the reason it got closed in the first place.
Spam.
Nothing would be accomplished except people lamenting their problems and other people (Who I lovingly refer to as "The assholes") walking in, mocking their situation and walking back out, leaving one with a pathetically inflated ego and the other in a worse state than before. It happens all the time in Digiblogger, so in the dump, which is a forum with looser restrictions, nothing good could really come out of it.
As for "No flaming"... The first flames that ever appeared in Digibutter (Other than the Bowser vs Bowser stuff, which wasn't really serious) popped up in The Dump. Flames aren't just confined to there; People see these flames, make opinions on the flamer and relationships grow more tense everywhere in the site until it finally breaks and flamewars break out everywhere else, including Off-Topic or GD. Which is bad.
Not to mention the fact that the mods would have to divert nearly all attention to The Dump, which would not only leave other places on the site less moderated, but also give us a lot more work. Then demands of more mods break out, people saying they're better than (name here) as a candidate, and the modship craziness we've been through 3 times before breaks out again.
I'd give the dump a day before it breaks down into a pool of spam and flames, if not less. |

Are you suggesting bringing back The Dump as a place for people to flame as well as spam? I mean, spam was the whole point behind The Dump, but I'm against allowing public expression of flame/hate/anger towards other members. It would probably cause more problems than good- a "no rules" board could scare potential new members away from the site.
So, yeah, if there were more mods and more members who are eager to report when they see flame, I wouldn't care about it being brought back. But in the piles and piles of spam that would arise in The Dump, law-breakers can get away with some pretty bad stuff. Quite frankly, the old Dump was stinkin' up the place; it should stay flushed.
Not supported. |

Yes, we could use this alot. Yet people fail to realize how beneficial it could be to the site, and the dump wasn't closed just because of the *crag* spam, it was because of how much bandwidth it took up because of the spam. If there ever is a dump it should have some more rules than it did before but not to much because that would ruin it.
Or better yet just lighten up Off Topic and GD while adding a forum for serious business. Because to be honest GD and OT aren't what there appose to be, General Discussion is Serious Business and Off Topic is just another General Discussion. The Dump would give a place for our crazy shenanigan starters to go, The serialtards can have Off Topic and General Discussion could still be serious business. I support this and hope ATLEAST Francis considers returning it to our forums, but improved. |

So basically you want TWO off-topics. I don't think that would help anything. People are lazy and just sit in one forum, so one would become the popular one, and the other would die off.
You can vent about your life in your blog. You can NOT vent (aka flame) about other members. Talk to a friend over IM or PM instead. It doesn't need to be out in public for all to see. Negativity is a fact of life, ESPECIALLY on the internet. Your happiness can not be depend on other people. If some members are always hateful and negative (aka trolls), then eventually they will leave or be banned. You just gotta learn to deal with them in the mean-time.
If you disagree or don't think we are doing enough to solve this "problem", please PM me. |
