List some cliches you've noticed.
Button that defeats boss
Companion that explains what's going on
Always some sort of fire ability
Gathering coins, gems, and things of value in exchange for items
And my final one, the double jump.

Now list some of yours.

That oen was probably meant for Sephiroth and Kefka. Also there are a ton of such examples. Archdemon, would be one.

The main character always has some sort of undefeatable form during (another cliche) the bonus scenario.

I'm looking at YOU, SONIC.

There are going to be exceptions to quite a few rules. but they're still cliche.

The Luddite Rule, oh my. The Bad Guys are always the ones with the massive cities and factories and weapons and whatnot, while the heroes are pretty much friends with Moma Nature, exuding the guns and ships they may or may not have.

Let's see... Oh, here's one: Gravity is always less than reality, in that you rarely die from high falls. Unless you fall into lava, a spike floor, Aperture Science Poisonous Toxic Goo, etc.
The antagonist will always blab on about their evil plan while the main character discovers a way to escape and/or kick said bad guy's butt.
Things are never as bad as they seem. They're usually a lot worse, unless sudden death is involved.

There's usually a male lead and a female lead, and they usually don't like each other at first, maybe even hate each other. Then, by the time they beat the final boss or whatever, they're in love.

Of course, that happens with TV shows and books, too.

The antagonist's henchman or your partner turns out to be the real villain.
