The world IS supposed to end. December 21, 2012.
... The world is supposed to switch the north and south poles around, causing several earthquakes, destroying several cities. And, at the same time, the sun is going to be in perfect position with the eath to create giant balls of fire, raining down on the earth.

Nah, we're not going down any time soon. You must remember that, as humans, we are highly adaptable creatures, and we have an incredibly large population. There'll be plenty o' wars and missiles n' stuff in the future, alright, but we'll pull through, one way or another. We wouldn't have gotten through such horrors as the Bubonic Plague if we weren't adaptable.
We'll exist long after we develop truly efficient space travel and set up colonies on other planets. By that point, it would be nearly impossible to fully exterminate the human race, now that it is no longer a species confined by a single planet, but by a galaxy.
If God exists, I imagine that He's pissed at us for some reason or another, but I don't think he's going to squash this planet any time soon. |

1. God is a fictional, made-up thing imagined by humans about a thousand or so years ago. (No offense.)
2. Our sun(officially regarded as Sol) is growing, and will eventually consume Mercury and Venus, though Earth's rotation will change. Then one day it will shrink into a white dwarf and has a 95% chance of going out and a 5% chance of exploding and destroying Earth and Mars and Jupiter and whatnot.
3. We'll migrate to other planets and moons, some day in other parts of the universe when we develop wormhole travel(Think Warp Drive or Hyperspace from Star Trek and Star Wars).
4. I'm gonna take a vacation on the moon! Woohoo! |

What actually will happen is that the magnetic field protecting our planet from solar winds/flares will disappear for a few seconds, during which all life on that half of the the planet will be wiped out. I'm not so sure as to what will happen to the side that's facing away from the sun. |
