I think its fair. 18 is an important age, when we turn into an adult. Of course, I don't intend to drink. |

Sorry, I hate alcohol pretty much altogether. >_> |
I'm not a fan of it either. My mother drank when I was little, so I myself am never going to touch the stuff. |
Yeah. My mom's side of the family has hypersensitivity to drugs and substances like that. It could kill me really, really fast.
That and the stuff smells RANK. >P |

Honestly, I'm not a drinker, but I think this would be a good decision. If I am old enough to fight and die for my country, then I should be able to have a beer when I want. |

Oh, a note to all the much younger members here...
Just in case they lower the age, this doesn't mean YOU have to become the "party generation". Believe me from my experiences as a 17-year-old private-partier (only drank with friends): DON'T DO IT. YOU FEEL LIKE SHIT DURING AND AFTER, AND YOU'LL CHEAT ON YOUR LOVED ONES... |

The drinking age should be lowered to 16 or even 15, and the driving age should be 18. :/ So people get the whole "OMG I CAN DRINK NOW LETS GET SHITFACED" thing out of their system BEFORE they're able to start driving.
After all, that's what all of Europe does, and they have waaaaay less of a drinking and driving problem, or other drinking problems, than the US does. |

Won't this just cause more drunk driving issues, and seeing as how bad the drivers are in the States... |

If you're drunk driving at the age of 19 or 20, chances are, you'd probably do it when you're 35. The thing is, I highly doubt that there is a huge behaviour difference between an 18 and 21 year-old guy- the thing that does differ is that the 21 year-old experienced a few years of temptation in college. If anything, it would help lower the problem, because the college years of temptation to drink, and finally go hog-wild when 21 if one didn't drink but still felt the temptation to do so, would disappear. |

Exactly. What Lord Crump is saying is that they're making everyone wait until 21. This causes more temptation in the years leading up to it, mostly during college, at parties and whatnot. If the age were to be lowered, people would not have this temptation at that point, and a lot less stupid decisions would be made. |

Yoshi doesn't really see the point.
Looks terrible, smells terrible feels terrible and yoshi's had a sip of wine before, not exactly 'illeagul' considering he was allowed to do so, and it tasted terrible.
IT IS TERRIBLE TO FOUR OF THE FIVE SENSES, AND YOSHI DOUBTS THAT THE FACT THAT IT DOESN'T SOUND TERRIBLE COULD REALLY MAKE AN AFFECT ON THAT MANY PEOPLE.
That is all. |

omg are you guys kidding me about thinking alcohol tastes nasty.
I can see beer and wine being gross, but Bailey's or Kahlua.... mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Getting drunk for the sake of getting drunk is totally unappealing to me, but drinking for the taste... Bailey's blended with milk and ice plxplxplx. |

This. Not all alcohol is disgusting, maybe you guys just haven't tasted anything decent yet. Pina Coladas are delicious, and I drink ciders every year at a family party.
And for those complaining about alchohol causing problems, then obviously you, or your example person wasn't smart enough to know that you sip alcohol over time and stop when you start feeling "happy", not chug it until you're drunk as *crag*. |

It's an acquired taste. I personally don't like straight wine (admittedly, I've only tasted it like... thrice), but a bit of it mixed with something else, like some kind of fruit juice, is really, really good. I've had non-alcoholic beer before, too, and I love the taste.
A bit more on-topic: I don't care much. I'm not planning on drinking when I'm old enough (at least, not on a regular basis), since I get addicted to things easily and don't want to get hooked. But I pretty much agree with what Lord Crump said. |

If anyone starts thinking that alcohol should be outright banned, think of what happened during prohibition. D:
And yeah, drinking smartly is really the key. And knowing what's good instead of getting whatever has content and is on sale. Like I don't anyone but alcoholics would drink vanilla extract or something. |

Anyway: Drinking responsibly is the key. It's not a problem as long as you don't go crazy. I, of course, learned that the hard way, and don't plan on drinking for quite some time unless it's a controlled, legal environment.
I'm glad I learned from my mistakes. It really opened my eyes. If I never realized how bad it felt being drunk, I probably wouldn't have the same attitude towards alcohol that I do.
Alcohol can taste great if it's mixed accordingly, but lemme say, straight up vodka is not nice. |
