There are five colors there. 8-bit is three colors plus transparency, also known as the fourth color. |

The amount of colors an X-bit system can show per sprite, excluding 3D systems as far as I know, is half of X. |

Yes, but that's overalls colors. Sprites can only use up to four colors, one of which is usually used for transparency. |
