Thank you to the members of the moderation who heard the little case involving the reversed green swastikas and the Soviet symbols and understood. Francis and Lord Crump, on behalf of the newly-created nation of Warningliftedania, I present you with this token of appreciation.

That was a horrible idea, if you ask me... if Jewish members of our community find it offensive, then it's offensive.

What if I said the Japanese of Spanish flags were offensive to me because of the atrocities that were committed in the country of my family's origin? Would all references to Japan be banned from the site because of my protest?

It was not a reference to Germans, it was an outright reference to Nazism.

Really, if people aren't offended by all the 'Soviet Russia glorification' jokes around here, they shouldn't be offended by the Nazi jokes, either. Stalin killed millions, and is nearly, if not just as, bad as Hitler. People seem to have forgotten that.

Again, the example shown in the thread. A year ago I was toting the Soviet symbols and no one gave a damn. I had a picture of a Soviet leader as my avatar. Nothing was done. The Soviet crest could be taken to some as badly as the Nazi symbol. I had a changed Nazi symbol as a "G" as in "Grammar Nazi" and nothing was done.

If I said that IMPERIAL Japanese flags and Christopher Colombus, who was working for the Spanish as a conqueror, were offensive to me, nothing would happen.

Its one of those things where someone will be upset no matter what stance we take. I like to err on the side of non-censorship, and trust that the maturity and common sense of our members (lol).

If someone is really offended, hopefully you can understand that and adjust your post accordingly. And if you are offended, really think about why you are offended, instead of just having knee-jerk reaction to a symbol.

Plus, most of these "Nazi" and "Soviet" references are comical, anyway, so why get pissed about 'em? Dragus never went and said, "I support Hitler- kill the Jews." He wasn't being serious about it.

It's also strange how controversial comedy only works on TV.

For instance, one of South Park's most popular characters is often comically depicted as a Nazi.

Indeed.

I chose to say nothing about the Soviet symbols, because they were being used in humor. I have no intention of ruining someone's fun. It doesn't offend me like it usually would because it's not being used in the original way.
