Yeah.
It's pretty much out.
FUN TIMES and all that.
I might buy it tomorrow.
Or I might buy Viva Pinata.
IT HAS YET TO BE DECIDED

There's a perfectly good Spore topic below this one. |

Well apparently it's not, because no one posted in it.
Also, I'm reluctant about Spore now.
It seems like the creation aspect is it's only saving grace, as the gameplay is way to simple to sustain interest. |

NO THERE ISN'T LOOK HOW WRONG YOU ARE
I'm at the civilization stage in Spore now. I made tanks that look like boats, boats that look like tanks, and planes that look like... erm, planes. It's a pretty good game, and I'm planning on playing through it again at least once, but I don't think it'll hold my interest after that. |

I don't have it yet, SSSS-BLAM...which is probably surprising, considering my avatar and sig for the last few months... |

I've decided to not buy Spore.
I mean yeah the creature creation is cool, but I can have that for ten bucks and not have to spend another fifty for a shitty RTS. |

Sure, it's short in some spots.
But, as one miscellaneous reviewer claimed, "damn, the scope of the thing."
Now, it isn't perfect, but it accomplishes what it set out to do, and nearly lives up to the hype. It's short but addicting (In a Star Fox 64 kind of way. Kinda.), and if you realize what you can do with the game, there will be hours and hours and hours of more gameplay than the 15-or-so that it takes to evolve a single creature from its cell stage to the space age.
Plus, the game's going to have plenty of expansions, and that might add layers of depth to some of the not-so-deep parts of the game (I'm looking at you, Cell Stage and Tribal Stage. Of course, Cell Stage is simple, good fun.)
And, the majestic scope of the game does tend to make you sit back and think about the universe.
It's a 9/10 game. Again, not perfect, but great. |

No not really.
All it has is the creation aspect, that's it.
There is no deep enriching experience here.
This does not make me ponder my life or it's finer details.
It's just Sims with a bad ass creator mode and some shit RTS thrown in. |

That's actually the reason why M'aiq's brother didn't buy the full version. |

Spore has consumed my life. I love it. Now if you'll excuse me, I have some trading routes to oversee. |

This kind of game doesn't need plot or a linear campaign to make it a deep and enriching experience. It's about endless content and discovery- and if that's not your thing, it still doesn't make it crap.

It isn't just RTS.
The cell and creature phases obviously play very, very differently, and Civilization is more "SimCity," whereas Tribal is more "Warcraft."
Plus, you're confusing "shit" with "shortness." None of the phases are bad, it's just that they're short. It may be a short game, but the replayability and constantly new content is what makes it worth playing. Star Fox 64 is a short game that you can beat in a couple of hours, but it's fun enough to play over and over again. That's the type of game that Spore is. |
