The color blue.
♦ Endless ocean...
Endless to the eye, that is. An expanse you float upon, senses consumed by the cool feel of the water, a liquid bed filled with life. An entire world rests below you, and you in turn rest upon its surface... until at last your strength gives way to the awesome might of what surrounds you. As you sink, the world above fades. There is no sky. The world below becomes your own. There's as much beauty here as any you've beheld in the world you once knew. This is, alas, a flower in a field of thorns; this world was not meant for you. You are a stranger, and to have reached the flower, you had to travel through into the middle of the thorns. Now they tear at you as you try feebly to escape, your lungs struggling with equal desperation; you've already used your strength to get to the flower, and now you can't get back. This world is wondrous, but not yours. You belong to the world you came from, the one that holds the blue sky you already miss so dearly; this continually deeper blue is now an ill sight. There is beauty in this world, but also savage cruelty; it is the way of things just as much here as it was in your former home. This endless expanse becomes endless terror, until at last your life is snuffed out by a hungry creature of the deep. Dreams can become nightmares in an instant, no matter what place we may call home... this ocean became a grave. Something truly beautiful was found, but not intentionally, and in the end, it proves itself forbidden. This story holds a sad ending, but take what you will from it... in closing, the writer would like to say that she wrote this completely out of boredom. You can judge whether or not something good came out of it. And that's the end. |

That's... strangely insightful and thought-provoking. I like the idea of not belonging to the water, and maybe, you should write a similar account from the point of view of a water animal on land. |

Thanks for the feedback... and the suggestion. That's not a bad idea. |
