1. people constantly tell me things like, "eew, you like pokeemons? only loser retarded 5 year olds with no life like pokeemons." Retarded 5 year olds with no life don't know how to play strategy games very well. Normal 5 year olds are moderately OK with strategy games.

2. when people hear pokemon, they automatically think i'm talking about the now-lame TV show that should've stopped after the hoenn part. then they think the game is based off of the show. WRONG!

3. some pokemon fans think that stats don't really matter; only levels. "if it's level 100, it'll still KO everyone in one hit with even with a not-effective move just because its level 100. another level 100 with good stats and a super effective move will totally undo that strategy. and once you get much past level 60, you're pretty much godmodding.

4. people pronounce it as "poke-EEE-mon" not "poke-AY-mon". did you notice the accent over the "e"? HELLO!

5. some people like popple like to try to find every excuse imaginable to insult pokemon.

The fact that you just called Pokemon a strategy game should automatically tell anyone reading this what to think of this topic.

It IS, isn't it? I'd call it an RPG/Strategy, with less RPG than strategy.

Planning what to do to your opponent next, thinking strategically about almost innumerous things.

Popple, I suppose you think pokemon's genre is of the STUPID category? And what do you think they should think about this, hm?

Calm down.

1. While strategy is involved with the game, so it is with every other RPG. You have to know your party's classes/natures and skills, understand (or make an educated guess) what nature your opponent is and coordinate your team appropriately. You have to be a good planner and have a pseudo-Sixth Sense about battle.

People that go "EW! POKEMON!" are usually people that never played it, played it after Gold/Silver/Crystal and were flailed about, unable to "Catch 'Em All", and so they came to despise the series that made them lose, or the person simply looked at the game or at Slowpoke, Magikarp, Mudkip, and Bidoof and thought it was "retarded" just from the look of those characters or because of the fact that kids play it. The last of these things I have faced with the Mario and Zelda series anti-fans because it was made by Nintendo and it was "kiddy".

2. As for the "automatically think of the cartoon", I can understand that, but not for what you are thinking about. I was talking about Greek and Roman mythology and some idiot claimed that the Gods could die because Ares died. I tried to prove otherwise because I thought he was talking about when Chronos ate all his kids (except Zues), but the second he mentioned Kratos, I knew that he was thinking only in God of War. And then there's the Lord of the Rings books and movies. No one knows of Tom Bombadil, the Barrow Wights, the Scouring of the Shire, of Radagast, or even of Glorfindel. I have to sit down and spell these things out to supposed "fans" and their usual response is "It is too hard to read", "Too much description of places" or (in the rarest cases) "The book's not based on the movie?"

Back on topic, in my opinion, Pokemon the TV Show should had stopped much sooner, or at least toned down the "LOVE AND FRIENDSHIP" stuff. Love and friendship won't stop an angry Charizard from making charcoal out of you.

3. Levels are usually an indicator of the character's higher stats, so I can sort of understand why they don't mention stats. Besides, I sure as heck don't look at my Pokémon's stats. I just pay attention to their level, element, and attacks.

4. Why would you let pronouncing of the word bother you? Its just a word!

5. And finally, people do that about anything they don't like. Prime example: video games in general. "Too violent", "Corrupting our children", "kids will do what is in the game", ect. If parents took the time to tell the kids that are new to games that these are JUST GAMES and not real things, then there wouldn't be kids trying to mimic game-actions, like that story that I heard a rumor about a kid who tried to kill someone to see if it was as easy as it was in GTA. In my opinion, the Crime-Simulators are the major cause of the anti-gaming league's vendetta. And shooters, but the Shooters usually are about saving mankind/your country/your family/your house/yourself from Threat Whatever. The Shooters are essentially about survival in dire situations. Crime Simulators are pretty much "I'm gonna shoot people and steal stuff because I can or because I'm hired to!".

That's like saying getting shot in the stomach is better than getting shot in the head, which is better than getting your balls cut off with a rusty knife.

Do you even *crag* play RPGs besides Pokemon?

Pokemon doesn't do anything differently from most RPGs, hell it does less than a lot of them.

Just because it's a slightly more competitive game because most RPGs focus more on single player experience than multiplayer ones doesn't make it a *crag* strategy game.

All it's doing is making up for it's lack of depth by inserting a human opponent.

Hell, the only reason that Pokemon is even a *crag* topic of "hardcore" discussion is the entire fact that it is multiplayer focused.

If any of the FFs had online play you could be *crag* assured that it would develop the same kind of bullshit around it as Pokemon has, hell it would probably be even more so with the brand it's carrying.

To insult the strategy genre by comparing it to any RPG is a mockery, a travesty even.

Looking up a bunch of *crag* numerical stat data on a wiki so you cna optimize your bullshit munsters doesn't make it a strategy game.

Oh for the love of g-

Translation since I'd probably be marked as a spammer again for no reason unless I explain my sarcasm thus ruining the fact that it's sarcasm: Shut up and stop arguing, dammit.

...what is Pokemon, if not strategy? it's turn based, SSSS-BLAM! If you use the wrong move in the wrong situation, you are going to lose.
...of course, I'm talking about battling another actual person, which, yes, is the reason why battling is fun. There's a LOT of strategy...and a lot of it depends on predicting your opponent's decision...which leads to mindgames...it's hardly a shallow system.

maybe...if that were all there was to it. You neglected to mention the actual battling part...isn't that kind of important?

doesn't that prove just how much replay value a game can have by focusing on good multiplayer? just look at Super Smash Bros.

This. It really is a stupid argument. The most needed was a first argument with Popple's first post. After that, it was just retarded.

Seriously.
As I said in the last topic, I don't share Popple's opinion on this. But he has perfectly good reasons for disliking Pokemon, and most of the people responding are just saying NO YOU'RE WRONG IT'S AWESOME AND YOU SUCK.
