Something very odd in Spore

I was playing Spore yesterday and while exploring, I found something very strange. I come to this nest, and there are no other creatures there, and I hadn't been to that nest before. There are just these weird, pulsating sacks of what appears to be some kind of silk or web.

This is the first time I saw them...

And today. This time there was another creature at the nest.

Does anyone know what the *crag* these are?

UPDATE: Saw another one while I was fighting off an enemy species.

I saw that in my game, but I assumed they were just sleeping creatures as it was nighttime.

Maybe it has something to do with evolution. It might be some kind of cocoon. Or, as Chaos-Stev-0 said, some kind of parasite.

I saw a bunch of creatures going into them once, SSSS-BLAM. I don't really know what the point of them is.

Yeah, but stronger ones appear not too far away.

I played as on Creature without mating for about the twenty minutes and most of the creatures on the island were there, even the stronger ones.

OK new theory:
When you're a carnivore, your only source of food is meat. What happens when you hunt off all the other creatures? My theory is these appear at an abandoned nest so you don't go hungry. I also have more pictures.
