The only rule in my house: NO ITEMS. FOX ONLY. FINAL DESTINATION. 
Actually, they are:
Don't mess with save files.
Don't sell anyone else's games.  (That one was my fault)
DON'T GREASE UP MY WII REMOTES.
Uhm, there are more, but I think these 3 are the top. |

Hmm...
1) (SSBM only) No playing as someone else's main(s).
2) No tampering with other people's save files without permission.
3) No Dragoon Parts in 3- or 4-player brawls.
4) No Smash Balls if Sonic is in the brawl.
5) No Hyrule Temple/New Pork City if any of the players are Sonic or a shooter.
EDIT: 6) (applies to everything, not just SSB) No clearing any single-player modes as someone else's favourite character until after that someone else has already done so.
EDIT: 7) Tiers don't exist in SSBB. Period.
EDIT 2: 8) No playing while eating/drinking/with greasy hands/etc.

the only rule I have is don't steal someone's controller or block the screen when they have to push the buttons that appear on screen during multiplayer
some people have a "no looking on someone else's splitscreen rule" but I say if you don't want people doing that then play online games |

Indeed. I don't want people eating stuff and then touching them. I'm *crag* OCD about that shit. If they ever even THOUGHT about sticking them weird places, then they instantly get shot. |
