Quote: | Spore was without doubt the most anticipated game of the year. The game itself has blown away the people who have played it, but the DRM encouraged thousands to get their copy illegally. Already Spore has been downloaded more than 500,000 times on BitTorrent, and this number is increasing rapidly. |
Due to new security restrictions placed on Spore, many people have decided not to buy the new game, but to instead illegally download it off of torrent sites.
The DRM restrictions force buyers to activate their game online. They also, can only activate it three times. After that, you have to contact EA if you want to install it again without buying as new copy.

What are your opinions on the matter? I think that if EA hadn't done the whole DRM shit, this wouldn't have even happened. |

I think it's hilarious how Spore is one of the lowest-rated things on Amazon. |

In my honest opinion, I don't see why the "three install" limit is such a big deal. Most people don't need to install a game that many times, anyway. I assume the only reason people think it's a "purchase-determining factor" is because of a paranoid "sense of backup safety" thing.
Anyway, even if the whole security thing was wrong, this doesn't justify piracy. Less legitimate sales = less chance of expansion packs or sequels. |

And more chance of EA learning their lesson. |

Actually EA's DRM, SecuROM, makes it so if you install the game 3 times you gotta buy a new copy. |

Well you see, for people who actually play a lot of PC games shit like Steam is a *crag* life saver because our hardrives don't have a *crag* unlimited cache of memory.
Making you pay to re-install a game is just criminal. |
