Haven't played it. Not sure if I wanna buy it. I got 900 wii points. I don't want to waste them by buying a game I'm not even sure I'll like. That's why I wanted people's opinions. But almost every single opinion (here, at least) is "That's the best game ever ohmygod you HAVE to get it if you don't already have it".

Well, this IS a Nintendo fansite, and, the SNES is considered the best Nintendo system ever by most Nintendo fans.
SMRPG has been one of my favourite games for a long time, but, really, it depends on what you like. If you like RPGs, then it would be a good game to get, as, like, with the Paper Mario games, it actually involves the player with the game itself.
It isn't a super long game; after beating it a few times, you can beat it in under a day very easily. Nonetheless, it wouldn't be a waste of points... most people enjoy this game.
The hype here is a little overboard, though. I'm a huge fan of this game, and I haven't even bought it yet... even though I've been waiting for it for quite a while now (not going to spend $600 on an original cartridge).
I've never played it, and I probably wouldn't enjoy it, since I've played the more recent Mario RPGs. And, if I did play it, I'd probably only end up comparing it to Square/Square-Enix's other fine works, making the game seem dull to myself. : /
Actually, I just recently wrote a review of the game. It should be on Lemmy's Land in three days and a week, or I'll send it to you by PM.
Anyway, I actually prefer this game to the original Paper Mario, though not quite as much as The Thousand-Year Door. What this game has going for it is just the pure power of: it's fun. It's not the gameplay, it's not the graphics, it's not the atmosphere, it's not the story, it's just plain fun.
It's pretty weak, if you ask me...I'd give it around a 7/10. It just feels so watered-down compared to a lot of other RPGs around at that time...the timed hits are a nice touch (and, of course, would be repeated in later Mario RPGs), but it still felt pretty underwhelming to me.
I don't think I'll get it. I'd rather get a new points card then wait for something better like Majora's Mask. I heard that was awesome. (I know that at least the music is awesome.)

SMRPG is worth it. I grew up with it too, and if you don't want to waste money on a game 90% of the human population believes to be amazing, grab a ROM somewhere.
