He deserves it. Call me heartless, but when someone kills 13 endangered and innocent animals and thinks he can just walk off and be free, they need to be punished, and punished bad.
Torture the kid to death, then feed him to the crocidile, or just feed the kid live. That little ****er should be killed either way.

These kids deserve to be punished, but not in that sort-of way. And I wouldn't doubt that some of the people (Not necessarily you) who suggest these kind of things would be against the death penalty in most other situations. Plus, considering animals not of our species or intelligence as equals to ourselves wouldn't help our species, in the long run.

You do remember that we ourselves are also animals, right? Sure we're smarter and can do a boatload of things they can't, but when it comes right down to it, we are all animals...

Think about it. Place yourself in the animals eyes... Imagine this kid beating the *crag* out of you, then, add to that, the stoning of you, then being fed to a reptile more than twice your size. How would you like it if someone did that to you? You wouldn't. It wouldn't hurt YOU to show some respect for the animals...

I'm not exactly the kind of person that freaks out about hearing about an animal being killed, but if some seven year old kid breaks into a zoo and kills some endangered animals and feeds them to crocodiles for no clear reason, then there is something SERIOUSLY wrong with the kid. I don't care if the kid is seven, he needs some serious mental help NOW, especially because of his age. If the kid grows up thinking it's okay to kill an endangered species and get away with it, then he's probably going to be screwed up mentally for the rest of his life. :\

When I see this kind of thing happen I see a future Sociopath. Trust me with all the media attention this kid is getting chances are he is going to become a real bad person real fast.

Not to say he was an awe inspiring role model for kids his age to begin with if he is bludgeoning His wife to death with a golf trophy animals to death. Regardless he probably did it because it sounded "cool" or "awesome" Or maybe just because he thought the croc was hungry. his brother may or may not have played a roll in this. you could maybe even get away with writing this off as him testing the boundy's of punishment.

Regardless of any existing problems the attention and the hatred towards him defiantly has scared his reputation, the ridicule attached to it will almost ensure a person who grows up to hate the world.

With this instance of violence that will most likely go unpunished, it will become a escape for him, he will plot violent acts and act on them as well. instead of learning whats wrong with violence and the severity of death, chances are it will become a " if I do this I better not get caught" deal. Possibly breeding the worlds next Abusive husband, or in a more severe case the worlds next serial killer.

Of course we're animals. We're just not the same type of animals, nor are those animals equal to us. Beings of our own level of intelligence and emotional capability should be our first concern.

I'd just like to say that all animals, EXCEPT HUMANS, are important to all ecosystems in some way. So it is a horrible thing when an species is killed off. It's like if all spiders died, we'd have an over abundance of flies in the world, and they'd probably evolve and kill us eventually. As for humans, if we die, a few cows get to live. Just saying, animals are more important than humans in every way. >.>

I swear, people are going to find out he's played Mega Man or something and blame that.

But no. No game or movie or show can make someone make this decision. This kid has some kind of horrible disorder, and that's all there is to it.

The global ecosystem certainly isn't the only determining factor.

Let's say humans advanced technology to the point where we can live without traditional ecosystems, and our needs are provided through synthetic means. Animals, then, would have little importance.

Now, although in our current not-so-advanced state, the global ecosystem is important, I consider scientific and human advancement more important. We can give our lives meaning and purpose; other beings cannot.

Still, as I said, this defintely it definitely isn't helping anything by pointlessly killing animals. Instead of pointlessly strict punishment like prison-time or whatever, these kids need to be forced to give back to the community.

Here's an article of reference.

My god...In little more than half an hour, some kid breaks into the zoo, beats rare reptiles to death with stones, and feeds them to the resident crocodile. His brother was also convicted of animal cruelty charges at the same zoo in the past.

That is just DISGUSTING, and frankly it's shocking, too. I'm sad for both the animals and the level of tolerance for animals if someone that young is able to go out and kill endangered species without a moment's remorse.
What kind of ticks me off is that a person commented on this article and said, "How is different from killing ants?" The difference is that, while there are like millions of ants in the world, there could have been less than 100 of any of those reptiles who were killed, and that boy just shortened those numbers by murdering rare animals and their mates. And besides, beating something and feeding it to a crocodile is much more violent than accidentally stepping on an ant...

What are your thoughts on the situation- the crime itself, what should be done to prevent future cases, or punishment?

My God....that's awful! If it's one thing that makes me very angry, it's people being cruel to animals. Animals are so innocent and just living their lives. I do not believe that there is an animal out there that deserves to be beaten or terrified. People who practice animal cruelty make me sick! Poor little animals. I love animals so much, that's why I'm applying for a job at Petsmart! That's my teen dream job.
