Where all (I hope) mature enough to handle curse words. It's not like we haven't used the words or at the least heard them. We've all used the f-word, r-word, and GD. So majority of us, are above 13, so why the hell should we cater to the younger members who shouldn't even be on the site in the first place. It's that simple.

Well, for one, some 8-year-old who was playing Super Paper Mario may randomly decide to google digibutter.nerr.biz to see if it's real, and see all the foul language. Being a Mario/Nintendo-related site, it's hard to determine who "shouldn't be on here;" plus, the we've always went with the "don't ask, don't tell" policy when dealing with the underage (And Francis has been alot more loose about it in recent times, anyway.)

Secondly, excessive cussing is never a pretty site, and some words are so offensive that it pisses off people of all ages or cultures, such as "c" or "f" or "nigger" (Which I'm surprised wasn't censored in the first place.) The fact of the matter is, there needs to be some restraint; mainly for the worst of the worst, and the racial slurs.

We need custom censors.

Just have is so you can type words that you want censored in a textbox, or have it so you can turn certain words on or off.

It would fix our censor problems completely. If a seven-year-old comes on and turns off censors, it's his problem, not ours. If some hypersensitive person comes on and cries about the word f*ck, it's because they turned off the censors.

I agree that the censors need reworking, but I don't think we should remove any.

I'm mature enough to handle this kind of stuff, but my parents can get pretty overprotective at times. Bad things would happen to my internet usage if they saw some of the stuff that floats around this site.

In response to the post quiry about my idea for the word "nigger" (sorry for mispelling earlier. I was typing fast. Tucking Fypos) What if you were discussing old world Europe with other members, or racism in America. You may use these terms in the conversation, due to the fact they are part of history.

Here's another idea.

Censor all offensive words. Everything you can think of.

Then, have an option to have censors turned on, or off.

That way, everyone is happy.

But some people may not mind one word being censored while they mind another word being censored.

Suggested twice, approved twice, implemented never, sadly.

What if we were discussing the evolution of profane terminology? Should the "f" word be uncensored because of cases like that?

The only reason I believe the "r" word should be uncensored is that it can be used as a legitimate term for involuntary sex, and isn't necessarily a profane term, in all cases. The "n" word, on the other hand, should be censored, regardless (Quite like my example with the "f" word.)

The "n" word needs to be removed from modern language, and be forgotten about.

Your suggestion about having all offensive words as a default works, but some people may purposely uncensor some words, because they may be looking for a fight (If they see ****** and want to have a justification for flaming in return, basically. This also creates more problems, such as people "cursing behind eachothers backs.") That system could be abused; I'd rather not have a "pick and choose" system.

How can somebody "uncensor" words when you have them censored?

It's about every post everybody makes being censored, not just yours.

Let's say you have the f word set to be censored.

Even if people don't have it censored and say it, you'll still see it censored.

Make sense? It should.

Obviously, it's not possible to automatically set back already censored words.

Now you know what we've been wanting for several months now. Instead of catering the censor to a few people, let everybody cater their own as they see fit.

Actually, that's where your wrong.

http://forums.falcon6.net/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=20339

Falcon 6 has it. Enable an option, and you see the censored words, in there original state.

OBJECTION!!

I feel this thread is too necessary to be ignored. I could censoring to be a stupid waste of time, and that one should simply be responsible, but there is always an exception to a rule. Perhaps customizable censoring for each person under profile edit? Mabye a simple and strict ruling of specific words not to be said, censored, or punishable by penalties?

[[Edit: I see now that some people have already mentioned a few of my thoughts on the topic.]]
