Yeaaaah. I agree that both the Court and Meow Mod need to be scrapped in favour of a temp-ban system.

I also believe that the strike page should be publicly viewable, so the members have the ability to see when unjust strikes are made.

Just wanted to make the same suggestion.

It's a freaking farce. Like an anonymous on 4chan, the mods go... a bit rampant once they are anonymous. What good are strikes if they aren't confident enough to issue them when we see who it is ? Policemen do not wear the mask, yet protect the public and are largely respected... expect by teenagers, who think rules are fort losers. But I digress...

I appreciate that Francis wants a more transparent system - I remember that I am the one who supported and / or proposed that idea - but it's getting a little ridiculous. The mods need, possibly, a dosage of Scheissegal (german, roughly "Who effing cares").

I suggest a point system. It's a proven method of doing things, and it doesn't give equal punishment to every task (Like, how on this site someone can be striked for spam and then striked, with nothing more, for soft porn.)

I propose a ten-points system. When you reach ten points, you're temporarily banned from the site (The administration will decide upon when to let the temporarily banned member back into the site based upon his or her record.)

Let's say that we have basic strike categories such as "spam," "flame," "prejudice," or "porn." Simple spam or flame could be worth 2-3 points, whereas prejudice could be worth five, and porn could be worth seven. Of course, it would require moderator judgement to classify each offense as what type of offense, but isn't that the point of being a moderator? To use his/her own judgement responsibly and strike according to the rules?

This system allows for more fairness than the strike system and the useless court system allowed. And, it puts the "thought" and "responsibility" back in to the hands of moderators; instead of them just looking at a list of reports and clicking on "yes or no" to send those cases to court.

The Jail Keys and Jail could remain, but jail would have more of a purpose. Jail would be hidden, and one can only see his own posts, whereas Francis and the mods can view everything. The jail would be to hold down members who suddenly go on a rampage (Instead of striking every single rule-breaking post that he/she makes), and to wait for Francis to decide whether to temporarily ban the member or assign him an adequate amount of points.

I basically have this in place already, but its coins instead of points. The severity of the strike determines how many coins you are fined. If you run out of coins, you get a tempban, and tempban is prison.

So anyways, these things need to be done:
Increase fines for certain offenses.
Detect when a user gets many strikes within a short time and alert mods/me.
Remove reporting ability from people who make stupid reports.
(for me) Provide more guidance to the mods, and monitor their striking trends.
Make the mods the jury, who decide on court topics. Members can appeal to the Elite Court (me), if they don't like the jury's ruling.

So what if UltiMario turns into a total douchebag overnight? He's still pretty much immortal.

It also feels biased against new members and the more generous members who usually keep themselves low on coins.

The problem is that Francis doesn't want to change anything. He's a cockroach, in political terms. I'm in full support of the temp-ban system, though the odds of him actually doing this in 2008 are slim.

And why shouldn't it be? Not to sound completely elitist and egotistical, but is it not true in both Digibutter and in real life that those who you have know for a long time and know well are often trusted more than those you have just met?

Someone with lots of coins is probably someone who is heavily involved in the site, and wouldn't be a "total douchebag". If it did happen, the system has overrides in place (prison-keys).

We want new members to be careful about what they do, so I think it makes sense that they be more fearful of the consequences. If a new member comes right out of the gate causing problems, you want them to get punished quickly and harshly.

And someone who is generous with coins, probably doesn't get striked very often. If they do, well, then they should stop getting striked.

Anyways, this is how they do things IRL, so I can always just say "this is how it is IRL" if someone has a problem with it. Franis

If, by real life, you mean Oblivion, then yes. Around here, fines are very few and far between. It's community service or revoking of licenses around here. Fines are for the very few rich.

I agree with Popple. It's a mask! Have you SEEN haow many tpics Francis ahs had to go in and say "Not Guilty" That proves that most of these strikes are just useless, and a waste of our time. I can understand being striked for flaming people, adulterated things/pornography, and useless spam meant to annoy people, but other than those, I don't think anything else is really all that bad.

Examples of stupid topics: Flamebait. Good lord this one's a topper for me! The "bait" is chosen to be taken. If the baited user wants to have a fit and retaliate, that's their fault. Be mature and ignore people who try and instigate stupid fights.

Example 2: Off topic: This is kinda sketchy, to me it depends. If it's spam or something mean, then yes it deserves to be striked. If it's a simple post someone put to use an item like a bomb or a banana, then just let it go because it's doing no real harm at all. If it's a question that the user sorta just put there, there's no reason to whine and strike it. What harm does question/item use do? Answer: Nothing.

Example 3: Censor Bypass: This one is another sketchy one since not all of the bad words have been censored. If you censor one dirty word, then censor the ones relating to it or it's just kind of stupid. So yeah, i'm kinda saying an All-or-Nothing might help resolve confusion as to what's censored, but also lets know that cursing is in our vocabulary. If you say a random"dammit" who cares, sometimes you gotta vent. if you go overboard and let loose a flood of words just for no reason, that's different.

In conclusion: Rules are good, they make a civilization. However, every rule has significant exceptions which should be allowed. Maybe some more exceptions should be added? The court system is kinda dumb unless it's a real bad case of something. These "go either way" deals are getting stupid and I've only been here for a week and a half. Just my opinion.

Most forums give you warnings, and if you mess up after that, you're banned. Whatever your punishment is depends on what you did. Take MFGG, for example. If you are really, really bad, you can end up with a perma-ban without anything in between. And your punishment log is public. Everybody can see what you have been warned for, what you have had tagged for deletion or split, and what got you banned.

We have to consider Digibutter in comparison, but not relation, to real life.

We live in a place where money pops out of thin air, and where there's is no real reason to keep it, much less an expected flow of monetary value.

Implementing fines in our justice system would be terribly stupid; even in real life I think it is bloody injust to have people with money let out - even if just on probation or however it is called - whilst the poor have to sit in jail; as it was pointed out those with the money coul theoretically allow themselves to go scott free.

A point system would solve things in an efficient way; possibly there could also be a direct democracy - every court topic has a poll how many points the person should be striked and after 24 hours, the rounded mathematical average is striked. Strike points should be visible in a profile, either public or just to the user themselves; or maybe there should be an extra inbox in the PM system concerning legal matter only.
