Tim Burton's making an Alice in Wonderland remake.
And Johnny Depp is gonna be the Mad Hatter.
This sums up my feelings perfectly.

Well, it's not like he'd end up playing Jervis Tetch, aka: The Mad Hatter in a future Batman movie... |

Yeah, that wouldn't be worse. Now, I have to share my love of Alice and the Mad Hatter with thousands of stupid fangirls who don't know shit about the original Disney version. Disney will forget that version even existed, replace the Alice characters in their parks, etc.
I mean, really. Look at the Joker! Heath did an excellent job as him, now, everyone forgets about Jack and Mark Hamil and they don't give a shit about any other Batman media.
...Yup, I'm pissed. |

...Yup, I'm pissed. | That happens, people eventually forget the old guys. But hey, we can show the next generation the classics, and pass on the tales.

Might as well be a CGI Animated cat, that looks so lifelike. Incidentally, the title of the thread led some to believe you jumped on the Surfin Bird Bandwagon. |

Personally, I didn't think Jack Nicholson's portrayal was that good, but that's not the point. If someone portrays a role, and that person's portrayal is generally accepted as the best so far, it's only natural that it will be the most well-remembered by the majority.
Of course, Heath Ledger's joker was able to take the character in a bold new direction, while still drawing alot from such classics as Arkham Asylum, The Dark Knight Returns, and from The Killing Joke.
The reason Heath Ledger's portrayal was so well-recieved, in my opinion, was because it was so well-acted. As well as, of course, how he took the character in a new direction while holding true to the source material at the same time.
I don't see anything wrong with Johnny Depp taking on this role, as long as he holds true to the source material while doing something original at the same time. After all, look at Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. His Willy Wonka beats the shit out of the old one any day of the week.
Edit: ...then again, it would be awesome if they did something like this.

Well, we can always take it into account that each of Disney's media-based films butchered the original plot to begin with. I bet the people who read the original Alice in Wonderland said the same thing about the original animated movie, when it came out. |

Also, a little rumor's going around that this is going to be sort of a sequel to the Disney version, with Alice coming back to Wonderland and falling in love with Mad Hatter. .-. |

Somebody find Tim Burton and drown him in a well. He's lost all of his talent. |
