Apparently, in a state capital a group of Atheists decided to put up a sign declaring that there are no gods, right next to a Christmas Tree and Manuarah.

So now people are protesting because they say the atheists are "Saying their religion is wrong." and "Impeding upon their right to religious freedom."

Jesus *crag* christ...

Now, people don't bother talking when THEY are the ones that are impeding others' rights to religious freedom. And besides, it's freedom of speech. People have said plenty of offensive things that go unaffected, so this doesn't really matter. And besides, they're not saying that "Their religion is wrong", they're just stating what they believe.

And if a Christian person says "Jesus Christ is the Messiah," then does that suddenly mean that they're saying my religion is wrong? No. Are they impeding upon my right to religious freedom? No. Therefore, those people that are protesting are complete idiots.

I choose not to go into religion at all, and stuff like this happening is the reason.

Putting a "There are no gods" sign right next to a symbol related to a religious holiday (The Menorah, as the Christmas Tree did not have its origins in Christianity) is an attack one's beliefs.

It's just as bad as a Christian walking up to an atheist and slapping a pin on him that states "You better convert or is gonna go to Hell. Have a nice day."

You see, the thing is, as much of a symbol that sign was, true atheists don't have symbols. Atheism isn't a religion, it is a lack thereof. True atheists don't preach, try to organize themselves, or try to disprove religions: because that, in essence, makes them just as bad as the religions they don't want to be a part of.

The atheists that do go out of there way to disprove religion and preach that there are no gods to the masses probably suffer from certain personal insecurities, just as the religious evangelists do.

And, besides, the sign was- again- an obvious attack. There is one way to solve this, however: and that is to remove both the Menorah and sign. The Christmas tree could stay; Christmas is enough of a secular holiday to slide by, anyway.

What's wrong with the Menorah? I don't see anything wrong with that...

As for the sign... Yeah, it was kinda attacky, but I still wouldn't care if I saw it. It's not like they went and burned down the tree and dismantled the Menorah.

As for me being agnostic... I'm not really offended by much to begin with, so that's where I'm basing my thoughts.

The reason I stated that the Menorah should be taken down was because of separation of church and state, whereas the Christmas Tree could have remained, because Christmas is primarily a secular holiday now.

pretty much this

they were practicing thier freedom of speech but it was an uncalled for act on the part of the atheists and it was an attack against the religious people's beliefs.

since the sign is meant to be confrontational though it should be removed, the menorah and tree aren't trying to bother anyone so they can stay, they're both more symbols of the hollidays then declarations of faith anyway (if it was a cross and star of david then it'd be different)

I don't usually do this but I'm siding with the christians on this one, atheists should be above this kind of childish behavior

its incredibly ironic but it seems like atheism is becoming exactly like the major religions to alot of people. This is the type of stuff the most nutso of evangelicals pull

You do know that it's for the birth of Jesus or something, right? OK, for what I really think? They all should stay. The aitheists don't believe god exist, so their sign should stay. The Jewish don't think that Jesus was the savior so their Menorah should stay. And the Tree should stay because they do believe that Jesus was the savior. Even if the christmas tree isn't just christian, or even begin in christianity, it's intertwined in it now..

Okay, WTF ? I have nothing against people's Right to Free Speech, but that was an attack.

People should learn to STFU; if there's one thing pissing me off it's people shoving their personal beleifs down other people's throat and claiming they're the only right ones.

It's like grade schoolers.

Few people actually celebrate Christmas for the birth of Christ, compared to the vast majority of people who celebrate Christmas for the heck of it. Christmas may have been the celebration of Christ 100 years ago, but it isn't anymore. There is no denying that Christmas is now built around secular festivities.

Plus, the tree has nothing to do with Christ being the savior. It originated in pagan traditions. Heck, Christmas barely has anything related to Jesus; Jesus, most likely, wasn't even born around the Christmas time period.

IT was about Jesus, and even if it isn't anymore...
It's stil that way to some.

And even though it originated in Pagan traditions they took it up in Christian traditions.
