Glitches are one of the most memorable things in gaming. I mean, come on, who could forget going to Minus World, or meeting up with a Missingno.?
So, in this topic, discuss your experiences with glitches; from ones that freeze the game, to the ones that erase data, to ones that just screw things up without harm.
~
I actually haven't had many glitch experiences, despite my vivid obsession with them (especially Pokemon glitches, lol).
A couple years back, (well, two or three, anyways) I turned on Diddy Kong Racing with my little brother. All of the files were completed, they had all of the courses and balloons. We didn't bother wondering why, and we played on all of the new courses (we weren't very far). We were finished playing a while later and turned it off. The next time we turned it on, everything was back to normal. To this day, I don't know what happened, but I hope it happens again lol. D:
While I'm obsessed with Pokemon glitches, the only one I've ever attempted is tweaking in D/P, and it didn't work. I was probably doing it wrong, though.
My most recent (by recent, I mean I just started trying it this week) glitch exploration has been the most fun, and the most dynaminc. I found a bunch of glitches in DK64, and went to go try them out. My favorite, and first one I tried out, is the one where you swim under the island and go into that secret computer room. After that I went under the island even more; I never got tired of watching the Kongs swim around in nothingness. Sometimes I'd fall out of the "sky" and start walking around on the ground, without water, then the water would come back but I couldn't get out, then I'd see my Kong flashing all over the place and things would go back to normal.
I tried a glitch that freezes the game with Wrinkly Kong floating around and staring at you without saying a word in Gloomy Galleon, using Lanky to cheat B. Locker, getting Tiny Kong to go in Chunky's Wrinkly Door, swimming through walls, and one in Jungle Japes where Diddy Kong goes through a cliff by Funky's, and ends up in this weird green place where you can fall into another area of a level. There's still more glitches for that game though, I'm not even halfway through the list.
One that happens a lot to me in LBP: Any time I try to make something with creature parts, it walks up the wall, then the air, and then the entire thing freezes. It happened four times when I was trying to make a working Super Mario Bros x-4 bowser boss enemy. ;o;
One of the most memorable that I can remember was in the Flutter Jump minigame in Yoshi's Island DS. I tried just falling right off the platform, to get a score of 0 for lulz. The game didn't register that I fell, so I just ran for the end of the line. The distance counter didn't rise, but I got to see how far the track went. It was a loooooong distance.
Roblox is riddled with so many glitches, it would take an entire topic of walls-o-text to name them all. But a lot of them are freaking annoying. Like falling through a baseplate from a high height, or worse, getting stuck IN the baseplate! Some glitches can be helpful, like delayed foot collision detection over a CanCollide-positive brick. It can sometimes get you over a deadly obstacle like lava. But if said hazard brick is CanCollide-negative (can go through it), well... (to quote Peasant's Quest) "You dead. Thanks for playing. Go back to the last SpawnLocation you touched, noob." Even if it is CanCollide-positive, you have maybe about half a second before "you dead". And it only occurs if you had jumped on the brick.
So I heard they fixed the Deadly Spinner Glitch in LBP...
When I was playing Megaman X as a kid, I went through Flame Mammoths stage, and, I decided I'd save myself some trouble and I went up one of the pipes, and was thinking, "I'M SKIPPING THE LEVEL," but, as I finally reach the end of the first conveyor belts, I see that the Sub-tank turned into a glitched X Sprite, and the room turned green. So I fall and die, because all the platforms were gone.
I can find ways to break games when I'm not paying attention, but when I try, I can never find a way to break the game.
Ah, yes. I recall playing SSBB with my friend, and he was using Link on one of my custom stages. Now normally, when you throw Link's boomerang at a wall, it bounces off, but my friend did it right next to the wall (off the edge on the right), and it went through all the freakin walls on the stage in a straight line. That's all I have for now...
I *crag* love to glitch out shit it games, most of the stuff I do though has been already found by other people but that doesn't stop me from abusing there full potential to the fullest.
I like to go around and hunt for glitches in games alot and find new ways of doing stuff with already existing glitches (EX: Bombchu hovering in Majora's Mask, turning all items into bottles in OOT, Using the hookshot in ALTTP to avoid damage, shit like that) Unfortunately, all the glitches I've found have either A) Already been found or B) Only pulled off once and never again
But anywho some of my most memorable glitchy experiences was messing with the debugger in the old sonic games...god the *crag* things I ran into while doing this...I actually got to an unloaded area in Marble Garden Zone one time by messing around with that.
Also using the Walk Through Walls code to get behind a book case getting Magus early and having him fight Lavos at the Palace of Zeal. Though it tends to freeze.
I was playing yoshi's island, on that Ralph raven boss.
Instead of exploding on the 3rd hit, it turned diffrent colors. AKA: Pink body purple shoes with yellow star on it's body. Every time I hit it again it turned a diffrent color. This was because the explosion was diffrent colors. Then for some reason, the body turned the colors of the explosion. I played this for half an hour. It couldn't die.
I was with my dad last night, and we were driving to this one hotel with pretty Christmas lights. It was a long drive, so I pulled out my DS and Puyo Pop Fever. It all seemed normal up until the main menu. The little circular icons you touch to choose which mode you want to go to (single player, multiplayer, endless, options) were shaking, and there were little bubbles spraying up from the bottom of the touch screen. I'm fairly certain this is normal, except these two events were happening really fast. I brushed it aside, and went to Endless Fever mode, to try and beat my record of 6,000,000-something points.
Right before a character goes into Fever mode, they say some cute little phrase and start popping some Puyos. The character you play as, Amitie, said "You betcha!" and went into Fever mode as per usual, and started Feverin' and whatnot. But then she said "You betcha!" again. Then again, and again, and again, and again, and she wouldn't shut up. I paused the game, and she shut up. But I still quit Endless Fever mode and went to Free Battle {take note, the menu icons were still shaking and the bubbles were still racing up, also, the only time the Fever Catchphrase glitch happened was during a match; there were no audio issues otherwise}.
I was Arle, as usual, and I was facing off with Tarutaru, as usual. I started up the battle, but then Arle said her "Fever Catchphrase", just as Amitie did, and wouldn't shut up. I purposely lost and tried it with Yu, then Raffine, and both of them wouldn't shut up with their Fever Catchphrases. I gave up, and decided to just turn off the volume {their voices are incredibly annoying} and ignore it. Soon enough we arrived at the hotel and I shut the game off.
I turned it on when I got home to see if it was still acting screwy, and it wasn't; the bubbles were gone, the menu icons were normal, and the fever Catchphrase glitch had vanished. I'd never seen the glitch before, so my mom suggested that my dad may have had something in his car that interfered with the game or something. But I had played Yoshi's Island DS and Pokemon Ranger: Shadows of Almia in the car before, and they didn't get messed up. So, I figured that the previous owner of the game (it's a used game, my mom bought it online) screwed around with it or something. Ooh, and I was able to play some strange game on the title screen where you keep a Puyo afloat by touching it, which never happened before.
I did a little research today on GameFAQS; apparently the Fever Catchphrases, or "Taunts", can be activated at anytime during battle by blowing into the mic, as can the shaking icons and bubbles (but not at the speed they were moving), even the floating Puyo game. But I never blew into the mic, and it was far away from my face, and the heat that comes out of those cute little vents in the cars wasn't the kind that just blows out air and stuff...
I wonder why the mic went all crazy, but was fine at home? What's to blame; the car, my DS, the game, or is it maybe the mic itself?

Also, this may be normal, maybe not, but I unlocked Carbuncle without ever seeing his cutscene (yet his cutscene appeared in the gallery after I completed the HaraHara course...I wasn't even trying to unlock Carbuncle, lol).
There was this awesome glitch in LittleBigPlanet that let you make a material act like another material. Floaty metal, extremely clanky and heavy sponge, you could make that kinda thing possible.

It's most likley the car. This has happened to me many times before in the car.
You either sitting close to the stereos in the car or the AC/Heat was on.
