No changes of music... That's a big hit for me. I dun like the whole "let's make a carbon copy of Wild World and pawn it off as a Wii game" thing.

The city is the only decent feature, and even then it's terrible. I can't even get into Redd's, it's 800 bells for an emotion, and...

WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THE AUCTIONS? It's more like a shitty Animal Crossing version of The Price is Right!

I can't believe I spent $50 on this thing...

When I think of auction house, I think of a community-based economic thing, in which values of items can skyrocket based on the entire AC population's demands.

And what are the odds that out of the maximum 20 friends I potentially have on the Wii will have the exact items I'm looking for?

I went over to my friend's house and played it once for a few hours. After those few hours, I sat back, and stated, "I've played this game before; plus, I can't understand why someone who owns the previous games would want to buy this game."

I have yet to understand why. It's virtually the same game as Wild World with some of the stuff from the Gamecube version (As well as slightly updated graphics from the GC version), but it isn't much more. Even the text of the characters that I was able to see during my play session was identical to what they said in Wild World. What's even worse is that this rehash was the only major (Quality) game Nintendo released for the Wii during the holiday season. The original Animal Crossing was a charming experience, and Wild World was able to put that experience in the palm of your hand. However, the fact of the matter is that the statement "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" doesn't justify adding little that is new to the pre-existing formula. In other words, selling the same thing over and over again doesn't cut it, as it gets old.

This is why I'm interested in this "AC clone" Konami is making. It has a basic formula similar to AC's, yes, but it spices it up by adding the element of "magic." I hope that it turns out half-way decent, and that it sells well. If it does, maybe it would show Nintendo that changing up the formula a bit isn't a bad idea.

Animal Crossing Wild World was essentially the same thing as the original, but people bought it for WiFi interactions.
Most game series overall are essentially the same thing with new stuff, infact.

It barely added anything. The only improvement M'aiq gives a shit about is the fact that they finally made the shirt-creator as customizable as they should have done back on the Gamecube.

Besides that, it's literally a remake of a game from just a few years ago. Again.

It did add to the series, but it was a very, very small addition, which is the point. It's not that people don't like the new additions, it's because they're not enough to make the game qualify as a new experience.

Most franchises do use a similar formula for each entry in the series, true. However, they do manage to change it up a bit, as Maiq stated; whether it's a new gameplay mechanic or a new plot, it is still distinguishable as a separate game. Zelda brings us new dungeons, new items, a new scenario, and new baddies to fight. Final Fantasy brings us a new plot, new battle system, and new characters to enjoy. Metroid brings unique, vast, alien worlds for us to explore, with plenty of nasty creatures to battle and puzzles to solve. Aside from the city in Animal Crossing, however, (And from what I played of the city, it wasn't even much of an addition at all), it is essentially the same game as before, but with a few little extra doodads here and there. Wild World was more acceptable, because it was the second entry in the series. Plus, it was a handheld game; therefore, the whole "play on the go" quality made it more valuable of a purchase. However, this is the third game in the series, and I, personally, fear that Animal Crossing will never become a true series if it keeps going at this rate, but virtually a single game that is remade for each new Nintendo console.

Now, if you were to take the Konami example I brought up in my previous post and say that it was made by Nintendo instead, it would count as- in the eyes of us who are disappointed in AC:CF- a true sequel. Now, of course, a radical change such as adding in magic wouldn't have to be done to make an Animal Crossing game that feels like a true sequel instead of a rehash. Fix some of the problems that have persisted through the series ever since the first game. Give us some mini plotlines, or a "main plot" that goes beyond paying off your debt to Tom Nook. Give our characters the ability to open up businesses and hire our animal neighbors. Expand the world beyond a tiny city addition; maybe you could go camping or explore caves to find new items to collect and place in your house. Update the character text a bit, and give some more personality and individuality to those characters, as well. Update the visual style like Windwaker did to Zelda.

These are not drastic changes, but they're enough to make the game feel new. As of now, I do hope you understand why we feel disappointed in Animal Crossing: City Folk. We don't hate the idea behind Animal Crossing; in fact, I highly enjoyed the first two entries in the series. However, we have every right to expect more from Nintendo's third release in one of their important franchises, and why shouldn't we? After all, this was Nintendo's only major Wii release during the holiday season, and it wasn't even that much of an improvement over the previous games.

We just want a little more when we know the series can give us more.
