Because a single game from the 90's has driven Square's budget indefinitely. Seriously. Geno isn't that big to them. He's just in one game, where as there are far larger characters such as Loto, Cloud, Squall, Tidus, Cecil Harvey, Golbez, Kefka, Zidane that could easily represent SE far better than that.
Now, lemme ask you this, which is more popular. SMRPG, or the entire FF series.
SMRPG, or Dragon Quest?
SMRPG, or, hell, the Mana franchise.
SMRPG isn't that big of a deal. Did it save them from bankruptcy? No. Was it the most famous product of Enix Corp.? No.

A game's characters can be far more popular or far less popular than the game itself.
And either way, Nintendo asked for Geno. What I was saying is that it was stupid not to accept, because getting a lot of money for a reason you don't care much about is far better than making no money when you clearly COULD have made money.
Basically, what would you rather do? Get $1000 dollars from an old painting of yours you don't like too much, or make no money at all?

You know guys, the reasons your listing for why Square Enix would want Geno in the game are probably the reason why he ISN'T in the game. Perhaps Nintendo did not want to pay royalties just to put a supporting character who was in one game in Brawl? |

Smashboards is the most reliable source out there, barring the Smash Bros. website itself, which no longer has the poll results on it anyway. Everybody else who I've talked to accepts this topic as fact. The only reason you don't it because you don't want to admit that Geno didn't actually come in first place. |

The problem with GoNintendo is that they have such a ridiculous number of pages that it's difficult to find anything.
February posts are in the 3200-3400 range.
EDIT: Searched Google for any page on GoNintendo with the keywords "Geno" and "Brawl".

Nothing more than a rumor. Whether or not you believe it is up to you, but it's hardly any concrete confirmation that Nintendo ever asked SE about Geno in Brawl. |

No, that's not the article. I can't find the one I'm talking about, either, but they posted that video, and other things about Brawl, too. I know they talked about the 35 character rumor, and a little about Snake and Sonic.
Whatever, I guess they deleted it.

On M'aiq's personal list, Meta-Knight, Geno, and Krystal were the three characters he was hoping to see.
Seriously, Geno would have been a major saving-grace for M'aiq. But alas, M'aiq doesn't run Nintendo, and so he sits back playing his 360 until something decent comes out again. |
