TL;DR version at end.

ICOMICO CHURCH, Va. (AP) — A 6-year-old Virginia boy who missed his bus tried to drive to school in his family's sedan — and crashed. His parents were charged with child endangerment. State police said the boy suffered only minor injuries and authorities drove him to school after he was evaluated at a local hospital for a bump on his head. He arrived shortly after lunch, Sgt. Tom Cunningham said.

It happened around 7:40 a.m. Monday on Route 360, about 61 miles east of Richmond.

The boy, whose name wasn't released, missed the bus, took the keys to his family's 2005 Ford Taurus and drove nearly six miles toward school while his mother was asleep, police said.

He made at least two 90-degree turns, passed several cars and ran off the rural two-lane road several times before hitting an embankment and utility pole about a mile and a half from school.

The boy told police he learned to drive playing Grand Theft Auto and Monster Truck Jam video games.

"He was very intent on getting to school," said Northumberland County Sheriff Chuck Wilkins. "When he got out of the car, he started walking to school. He did not want to miss breakfast and PE."

His parents, Jacqulyn Deana Waltman, 26, and David Eugene Dodson, 40, are each charged with child endangerment, Wilkins said. Waltman is being held without bond. Dodson was released on a $5,000 bond.

It was not clear if they had attorneys.

The boy and his 4-year-old brother were placed in protective custody.

"This really is a story of miracles," Wilkins said. "The Lord was with him, along with everybody else on the highway."

TL;DR, 6 year old took family sedan because he thought he could drive it after playing GTA. Drove 6 miles until he crashed. He's fine, Parents say god helped him.

I'm amazed. But how is it child endangerment if it's the kid's damn fault he drove the damn car? The parents didn't tell him to, so therefore, they did not endanger him. The kid endangered himself.

Didn't I hear a story similar to this before? Like when a person tried to do something for real that was actually in a video game?

Anyways, I'd just wake up my mom and ask her to drive. Why do it myself?

Because you're a 6 year old that played GTA, therefore, you can drive yourself.

*shot*

Seriously, I never knew anyone who was that stupid, even at the age of 6. .-.;
Also, the parents ages are 26 and 40?

They started as Pedo and Child. They loved, got married, had a child, bought him GTA, and, unknowingly taught him how to drive. :P *brick'd*

Anyways, I wonder what the other drivers who saw the kid were thinking...

I'm pretty sure that somewhere between letting him play Grand Theft Auto, leaving the keys in his reach, and not being there in the morning when he has to go to school, there's child endangerment.

There's certain things one is obligated to do when they have a six year old child. And they failed to do so.

Six year old? Grand theft Auto?

God, the ESRB must feel insignificant now. Even IF half the T-rated games are E 10+ if not E, an M rated game just isn't for small children.
