Thanks, though I didn't ask to be put on the list; it is voluntary. One might think people NEED to know my sex, but I do not consider it so. Maybe if they didn't like how my gender is female? Or they need to feel comfortable being able to call me male in some way? It's just how I'm coming to interpret this. I don't want to be on the list because I do not find it so important. |

You know why there is so much sexism in this world? Because people put too much focus on how their "genders" supposedly make them who they are, when they don't. Psychological gender differences were something that society forced upon us; if fate didn't give males in the past such a "dominating" attitude, we probably wouldn't have these irrational concepts such as "gender role" or "gender identity." The only difference would be biological differences, and slight personality differences.
I'm sorry, but human personalities should have evolved far beyond the simple duality that they consist of now. Of course biological differences between the genders have been apparant since the dawn of time. Do you see me arguing that? Those gender roles resulted from the times of humanity's basic survival, yes. However, they weren't necessarily needed once civilized society developed. A woman doesn't have to spend her life raising children if she didn't want to; however, women were forced to, due to the arrogance males had at the time. And no, such things as expecting women to wear frilly dresses and act "lady-like" wasn't based on biological differences; it was, too, based on arrogance.
The concept of what makes a woman a woman and what makes a man a man aside from biological differences developed from human culture, and is a problem we need to abandon.
I don't see why you'd bring this up, though, if you weren't arguing in favor of the preservation of gender roles or gender identities. |
