It really isn't that big a deal The only thing that really matters about it is pay discrimination, imo. (And other things like that)

To answer your question, the reason these stereotypes exist is because the majority of the genders prefer other things. it's like 80% to 20%. How many guys do you know that wear pink all the time? Now how many GIRLS do you know that do that? How many girls do you know that have masculine senses of humor*? Now how many GUYS do you know that have masculine senses of humor?

*By this I mean like fart jokes and That's What She Saids, and things like that.

Said before but I will repeat and possibly add a bit.

This topic was even made in first place as a response to the other gender topic. But, at least I think so, mentioning your gender in that topic was optional, no? If you don't wanna talk about it, if you don't think it matters, you don't post, that's it.

Tidbits of personal information are things it's always optional to give out or not, if not flat-out forbidden. But never obligatory, with few exceptions (Such as "thou must be 13 to enter here").

This whole business is extremely unecessary. I think we ought to lock this topic, delete both the topics related to the matter, and if anyone wants to do it redo the first one.

Sex doesn't matter; of course. However, I take that notion a step further: gender doesn't matter, either.

Quote:
Male, but it really doesn't matter.

You know why there is so much sexism in this world? Because people put too much focus on how their "genders" supposedly make them who they are, when they don't. Psychological gender differences were something that society forced upon us; if fate didn't give males in the past such a "dominating" attitude, we probably wouldn't have these irrational concepts such as "gender role" or "gender identity." The only difference would be biological differences, and slight personality differences.

I'm sorry, but human personalities should have evolved far beyond the simple duality that they consist of now. One should be determined by their individuality, not the customs and ideas that flawed human cultures have forced upon them. It's time for our personalities to become "genderless," instead of giving in to old ways of thinking.

But, of course, this is a debate for another topic. I've made this "gender role" topic here before, and it may be time to bring it back. I dunno.

I guess it's better to use this one than make a new one.

Sex, in NO ay, determines ANYTHING about you.
...for the most part.
THE ONLY way in which male and female are different is when it comes to reproduction.
That's it.
Every guy and girl outside of that have equal opportunities to do anything. Anyone can go anywhere. Every human has that potential from the moment they are born, unless of course they are afflicted by a disease or something.
It's doesn't matter about your sex.
Guys are better than girls at physical things?
I know plenty of girls that can kick a guy's ass any day. And vice versa.
Girls are smarter than guys?
Horrid lies!
Look around you. Can you honestly tell me that ALL the guys around you are dumbshits?
No.
You can't even say on average.
And there are plenty of females who AREN'T smart, just like there are plenty of males. AND VICE VERSA!
Anyone has the potential to do ANYTHING and THAT'S THAT!
Gender roles are the STUPIDEST way of trying to control a population next to RACISM!
That's right.
Gender roles, Sexism, and Racism go hand in hand people.
Don't believe me?
Read a *crag* dictionary. Then you'll learn.
And it's not so much the aspects that hurt people. There's also the one's that are supposed to be just the way things are done.
"Ladies first"
Who the *crag* do you think you are? Why should I let you go before me, just because you were born a different sex?!
You want to plea "politeness?"
Shut the *crag* up! Politeness my ass! If it were "Men first", you would be crying "SEXISM"!
Well how the HELL is this any different!
And the way Men are treated like the are ENDOWED the right to RULE the household and business world.
Last time I checked, Marriage was meant to be a *crag* PARTNERSHIP!
And your telling me that you are going to pay a male more, even is he preforms worse than a fellow female co-worker?
That's just stupid.
It's illogical.
It holds back your company.
It holds back the entire human race.
That's all I have to say on the matter.

The first part in lb is definitely the part I hate most.
THERE ARE WAY TOO MANY WOMEN WHO THINK WOMEN ARE SMARTER THAN MEN. I HATE IT.
(But not all women think this, so don't call me sexist. Some women I've seen even think the opposite. Some women are sexist for men. (i.e. They think Men>Women) )
Just because most (not all) men are stronger than women does not in any way mean that they are stupid.
Apparently, they think that you can only have brains or brawn, not both. In some cases this might be true, but that does not mean you can assume that all men are stupid just because they may be strong.

I think the biggest reason that stereotype exists is because in nearly every sitcom, cartoon or ANY OTHER FORM OF MEDIA EVER, the main female character is always smart and rational and the main male character is dumb comic relief.
Of course, you can't do it the other way around. That would be sexist.

In fact, the media's influence on the matter is a lot more extreme.

Hence, The Smurfette Principle.

"Gender does not matter"

You obviously think it does. You've made such a big deal over it, as well as others. Such a big deal, it's important enough to share it with 50+ strangers on the internet.

I really hate it how stuff like this can exist and no one complains, but when it's the other way around, you get killed for sexism.

I thought it was 'sex doesn't matter?'

I was reluctant to share with anyone here, and I acknowledge that I never had to tell anyone this fact about myself. I hoped that people here might be able to still accept me and not hate me or anything. And some of the responses were great, it really picked me up. It was a bold step I chose to take; gender does matter to me, since it's linked to my gender dysphoria, a major factor in my life. By 'sex doesn't matter' I think Cherry's essentially referring to how there's little difference (behaviorally) between the two sexes of male and female.

By the way, if anyone truly wants me personally to shut up about this and never talk about it again, I can try, if it truly angers or irritates you. It just happens to be something huge going on in my life right now, and I've trusted most of you here to be okay with it, whether my choice to do so is foolish or not. But I apologize.

If you didn't think it matters, then why make such a big deal as locking my topic and making this one? You obviously have big issues with the whole idea.

If I don't recall wrong Frozen did it because major chaos was ensuing and it was only right to stop the whole thing from turning into a flamewar/drama riot.

I tried bringing up my concerns in a perfectly calm, reasonable way, but now people are probably going to dislike me for saying anything in the first place. So I apologize for that. Note that my mood's been "blechish" lately, but I try my best not to bring it down on anyone else here... I guess I just fail at that sometimes.
