What things are the most important to you in a game. For me, How much content and replay value is in the game. And does it run smoothly enough where I forget I'm playing a game?

There are four major factors to me:
Plot
Gameplay
Character Depth
and Music.
Without those, a game might as well be shit to me.
Graphics also have to be passable in my eyes. Not gonna play a game that burns my eyes out.

Plot
Gameplay
Challenge
Character Development
Music
Durability(As in how long can I play it without getting bored.)
Fun Minigames to slack around on, if it's an RPG
Good portrayal of its genre. For example, if it's meant to be funny, it should be funny.
And of course, as with Lord Bob, graphics have to be somewhat decent.

Plot: I'm not exactly picky on this issue. It can range from an Excuse Plot to a super frickin large plot as long as gameplay is good.

Gameplay:Of course. Would someone truely choose something else about a game over this factor?

Character Development:Bonus points if even the enemies are given decent development. And I don't mean the bosses, the frickin basic enemies.

Plot
Artistic Design
Gameplay
Music

Most importantly, length. I don't give a shit what you say about "replay value" if the game is short as hell. I'll give it to BioWare for making one of my favorite games and tempting me to play it multiple times, but they damn well better make Mass Effect 2 longer than the first.

If the videogame world was perfect, every game- not counting sidequests- would be at least 30 hours long.

It's unfair, however, to judge Nintendo games with plot. For some reason, their development philosophy is against story-driven games, and is a more simplistic one; at least their core franchises are fun. However, most of the other stuff they've been doing recently pisses me off.

Me? Let's see...

Plot. Above all else. The game could have some pretty crappy graphics, but as long as there's a plot to be had, I don't give a rip for the graphics.

Gameplay. If the game is as hard to play as "Bebe's Kids," which was rumored to have been so difficult it was "like trying to perform Swan Lake with an elephant strapped to your back," there's very little chance I'd play it. If it only has a learning curve, though, I can let it slide - I don't want it to be TOO easy.

Length. These days, the combined total of hours it takes me to finish a game is around 20ish or so. Games like SoM and SD3 are much older, yet they STILL take me about 40+ hours for me to finish, a factor that I greatly cherish for such games.

Replayability isn't an issue for me - virtually ALL my games I've replayed at LEAST once, and I still enjoy them. When I DO replay them, however, I like to set goals for myself, like seeing how fast I can 100% the game (all side-quests, collectibles, etc.). Indeed, I sometimes find myself digging out my old SNES games (which still work!) just to re-live those days gone by.

Graphics are a good point, but, as I said earlier, if the plot stinks, or gameplay is terrible, you could make the most artistic game in the world and I'd never play it.

Music. Now HERE'S a category where I'm VERY critical of. I am a VERY music-oriented person, and if music doesn't seem to give the game the feeling I want, I can usually tell right away. A good example? Sins Of a Solar Empire. The game is awesome, but the problem is that some of the battle music is a bit "meh." It doesn't really get me in the mood, if you know what I mean.

On the flip side of this is Wario Land - Shake It! Sure, it's pretty simple, but I often find myself whistling music from Slipshod Slopes, Glittertown, or the like. And it took me close to 30 hours to 100% the game, so I wasn't disappointed, I feel. Smile

That about does it for me.

Gameplay.
And for RPG's I look for a normal Turnbased battle system.

Replay value is the big one, and thats really it.
If its like a game where you beat it, and theres nothing else to do, its a waste of what...50 bucks? I need a game where it'll keep me busy for at least a year (Melee and Brawl are great examples)
Other than that, gameplay is the other one. Crappy gameplay=frustration=unhappy Sammer Guy.

I find length far more important. I'd rather have a long, detailed game than a very short game that justifies its purchase by its level of "replayability." I don't see why one would want a very short game that can be re-played from start to finish over and over again over a very long game that creates a variety-filled experience.

Not saying that replayability is a bad thing; I'm just saying it shouldn't be an excuse for games to be only ten hours long. That's one of the reasons why I like the Final Fantasy series so much; they're long and have well-developed plots, but each time you play it (If you don't use a strategy guide, that is), you find that there's always something you missed, and that creates another reason to go back and play through the game again.

On a more personal note, I'm not the guy who will immediately re-play the game again after beating it. Usually, it will be over a month before I decide to go back and play the game again; therefore, in my eyes, a very short game is a waste of money.

I'm not talking about short games that can be played over again. I'm talking about games with good length but at the same time have a SHITLOAD of things to do after you beat the game and don't get boring after a few weeks.
