As of 2008, wild axolotls are near extinction due to urbanization in Mexico City and polluted waters. Nonnative fish such as African tilapia and Asian carp have also recently been introduced to the waters. These new fish have been eating the axolotls' babies, as well as its primary source of food. The axolotl is currently on the International Union for Conservation of Nature's annual Red List of threatened species.
Discuss this and other endangered species that you care about. Not to sound all environmentalist, but... actually, yes, that's the point. These poor animals and countless others are being ruined by what we're doing.

Seriously, though, Humans as a species have really messed up the ecosystem of the entire planet... Many species would go extinct without us, but we are accellerating the rate at which it happens simply because of laziness and economic growth. All for paper and five extra minutes of rest. Worth it? Apparently, some people think so. I'm 50-50 on the issue, but tha will change, seeing as they're killing off all the awesome species.
