"Be" & "Ve" are pretty much the same thing in Japanese, so his name is fine. Recently they've been denoting the v sounds with an u and than some ", but when DBZ came out, this convention wasn't around, me thinks.

As it's supposed to be a pun on the word 'vegetable', the ve sound is more likely what the creators intended. |

Bejīta, you're still spelling your name wrong. I looked you up on Wikipedia, and you're supposed to spell your name with only one "t", and the "i" is supposed to be a macron letter. Here's the link to prove my statements.
