So, I've been reading a lot into arguments against religioin lately.
It's funny, for the longest timed I pity the faithful because they couldn't see the truth, that the universe was meaningless.
But I stumbled upon an article that almost completely synchorize with what I have been going though.
It was a fairly lengthy essay of a former atheist.
He had spent his entire life devoted to science, hoping he could one day create a real garden of Eden, a true paradise out of real cold hard data and not silly faith.
But something happened.
He began to see people as only walking biological machines. Going about their day, following their predetermined path.
He no longer could socialize properly, he couldn't exhibit emotion. He had become hard and cold. He has lost all ties to humanity because he saw all around him as meaningless.
He saw life as nothing more than a vehicle to carry one to death.
He lost all meaning in life until he started trying to disprove religion.
He spent weeks and weeks looking through texts, looking through the data, but it wasn't good enough.
He began reading the works of atheists philosophers, trying to find meaning.
But he couldn't.
Atheism does not allow purpose, even to help future generations is futile effort as they will die as well.
In the face of ultimate demise, nothing could have meaning.
That is until he picked up the bible again.
But this time instead of scrutinizing it, instead of actively looking for flaws; he read it in the mindset of reading poetry or prose.
And he got it.
He discovered the soul.
Needless to say this story set me on a rush.
I looked up more ex-atheist testimonies and almost all of them clicked with the perceptions I've been going through.
Number can't explain god, only logic can.
Logic rises above all because in the realm of the spiritual, science has no base with which to stand upon.
I still am not a christian though, I'm really in between stages right now.
I believe in a conductor, and I believe we have souls, but I do not know if I am ready to commit to someone else's beliefs.
I am freed of the chains of science and math that bound me to the earth, and I stand in a world full of possibility.
I am reborn.

I'm pretty much agnostic.
Mostly because I hate organized religion.
I can see the appeal, but it just isn't for me. |

No, they stole a joke from Stephen Colbert's Book "I am America"
So I'm right. |

Not all atheists think life is meaningless, though.
Sure, it doesn't last forever. But if nothing happens after you die, shouldn't that make you want to enjoy life while you still can, instead of moping about how pointless it is?
I do believe in souls - I said so in your GD topic - but I don't really attach any spiritual significance to them. I do think they're just part of your brain's functions, I just choose to call that part of your brain a soul.
Anyway, I respect your beliefs.
Just don't go fundamentalist on me. |

Yay for logic, really. Logic's the only thing you can actually trust, in my opinion. |
