Cid, there is a way that they can do it without having linear levels, and that would be via replays. I'm guessing the following:
a) Replays from Save Point A to Save Point B
b) Replays for a zone
c) Replays for a mission of sorts.
Either that, or they make the computer's AI brilliant as hell. |

I'm not seeing the bad part. Sure, I would never use it, but it gives Nintendo more room. Like it was said, it allows them to cater to the Hardcore audience while giving a way to play for the casual audience. So they don't have to worry about making it easy enough for casuals to play, they can leave that to the system. If they get stuck and it's too hard for them, they let the system do the job. The hardcore audience can then play through the game as they normally would. I like the sound of that. What's so wrong about it? |

I WAS ASSUMING THIS WAS BASICALLY AUTO-PILOT FOR GAMES. ALSO, THE WAY YOU'RE DESCRIBING HOW REPLAYS WOULD WORK WOULDN'T FIT IN ZELDA OR METROID, BECAUSE ZELDA OR METROID DON'T NECESSARILY HAVE ORDERED SAVE POINT, ZONE, OR MISSION PROGRESSION (UNLESS I'M MISTAKING WHAT YOU MEAN). IN METROID, YOU CAN VISIT SWITCH AROUND THE ORDER OF AREAS YOU VISIT (AND THOSE AREAS WILL ENCOURAGE BACKTRACKING TO OTHER AREAS), AND IN ZELDA, YOU CAN CHOOSE THE ORDER OF ROOMS YOU WANT TO VISIT IN A DUNGEON, FOR INSTANCE.

AT THE SAME TIME, YOU'RE IGNORING THE POTENTIAL ADVERSE EFFECTS IT COULD HAVE ON OPEN-ENDED LEVEL DESIGN SO THAT A SYSTEM LIKE THIS COULD EXIST. SUPER MARIO BROS. OR STAR FOX ARE LINEAR IN THEIR LEVEL DESIGN, SO THIS SYSTEM COULD EASILY FIT IN WITH THOSE FRANCHISES.
ZELDA AND METROID ARE NOT, HOWEVER; BASED ON ITS PATENT, WE CAN ASSUME NINTENDO WANTS TO USE IT IN A ZELDA GAME. |

Aha, but that's all you can do is "assume". You don't know.
Besides. simple solution: It only let's you turn it on at certain points, so you cna't say, turn it on in between dungeons on a Zelda game. Or in Metroid, you cna only turn it on in rooms that have actual platforming challenges. |

This is just getting odder and odder. Good thing the save feature is turned of during the process (WILL NEVAH USE IT EVAH). Well, planning to get an 80Gb PS3 this summer when it's at it's cheapest. I won't pay more than around 2700kr for one. |

The thing I'm not gonna like about this? People can take a difficult game and 'easymode' their way through, and just say they did it themselves.
Even without a save, all it'd take to fool a moron is the ending. |

They should just add a rewind feature for every game.
I was replaying Mega Man on my DS, and the emulator I used can rewind gameplay. (just like Braid) Makes it WAY easier.
But this?? Why!?? |

Agree. It's better to go "Prince of Persia" than this! T_T (No offense, that was a pure joke right there, yet efficent) |
