At great cost to Toaster's bandwidth, I present an unordered top 10 boss theme list.
With added observations about said boss themes.

Adventures Of Batman And Robin: Big Boss


Jesper Kyd's work is fantastic, and this is no exception.

Revenge Of Shinobi: Terrible Beat


This practically set the standard for rhythm-heavy boss themes.

Gradius II - Gofer No Yabou: Shot And Shoot


Anyone who remembers the gunwall will remember this.

Sonic Rush: Wrapped In Black


Spanning the gap between apocolyptic orchestra and sample-heavy techno, only Hideki Naganuma could pull off a stunt like that and get away with it.

Space Manbow: Hydra


Skip to 4:13.
Quite an unconventional VGM with seemingly random chord layout and note choice.

Darius: Boss 3


Skip to 4:08.
Almost enough to create a sense of despair.

Castlevania Portrait Of Ruin: Piercing silence


Fans of Yuzo Koshiro will be able to pick out his style fairly quickly.

Golden Axe - Death Adder


A boss theme atypical to the theme and setting of Golden Axe, it's a fairly memorable piece.

R-Type: Boss


Still holds a place in the hearts of those who lament the arcade hayday.

Kirby's Adventure: Nightmare
