Playing Final Fantasy V has made me realize how *crag* awesome a job system like that would be with an online component.

It's just a huge grindfest.

And you lose exp and can level down when you die.

I got to level 5 and quit.

When was the last time you played, they patched the *crag* hell out of it.

Also I really don't care about losing levels.

At least it adds a sense of challenge.

I heard that on the loading screen there's actually a warning to stop playing and go outside.

I also hear there's a boss that takes something along the lines of 18 hours to beat.

Dude.

The final boss was beaten in half an hour for me.

Yiazmat, which had 15 million HP, took me an hour and fourty-five minutes to beat. Doesn't take long if you have some of the best shit in the game.

That reminds me a lot of Kingdom Hearts II's ending.

I don't remember how long it took me, just countless repetition of the phrase "Really? Another boss form? Really?"

They may have, but on the other side, the game's golden days have long past (Meaning fewer players).

This mechanic doesn't make the game more challenging in terms of "skill;" it only makes the game unnecessarily frustrating and tedious.

I highly caution you to think twice about picking up FFXI. If you're used to WoW's focus on variety and overall fun, you're probably going to be quite disappointed when you play FFXI; it focuses less on variety and general entertainment and places its focus far more heavily upon difficulty, and proudly encourages elitism.

Plus, summoners are nothing more than a buff class and beastmasters really aren't beastmasters. Aside from that, there are a number of classes that have been nerfed to hell (Such as dragoon or puppetmaster, which have become pretty much useless, from what I hear from my FFXI-playing friends), causing quite a bit of unbalance.

I'd also like to point out that there is far, far less PVP in FFXI than in WoW, and quests are few and far between.

However, if you think you'll like it, go ahead. Know that it is generally accepted as the most infamous MMO in terms of difficulty or tedious progression, however.

Most high-budget MMOs have something like that, I believe. FFXI puts in, like, a whole paragraph, however; every time before you log in.

Funny thing is, from what I've heard, they've made it so that you can only beat him in a few hours, and he's still just as difficult.

I find progression of any kind tedious and difficult.

In fact I almost never play WoW if podcast of an entertaining nature are within arms reach as well as a portable gaming device should respawn times allow.

I really only play MMOs in the hopes of one day gaining enough levels and prestige to actually participate in "the fun part." Namely group play.

In all honesty I would be O-*crag*'-K with a game that started you out at max cap and said Go.

I found that part of Guild War's PVP appealing as it allowed me to participate with my guild mates in various activities I would never have been able as I had not reached level 20 at that time.

In fact I found many aspects of GW appealing, namely the fact that the level cap was so low and achievable by your everyday gamer. The fact of the matter is though that Guild Wars really isn't an MMO and it terms of polish it could use some.

I love WoW, but not the WoW I'm forced to play. I listen to podcast about WoW and read articles about WoW that simply have nothing to do with me or my character because I'm *crag* level 20 and during regular school months I simply don't have the time or patience for quest-based grinding.

They can add all the pretext and flash they want, the fact is that at the end of the day 80% of WoW's not end game content is "go kill this shit."

Hell, perhaps that's why I find FFXI so appealing as they've actually added a system that somewhat combats this frustration though even then the game leaves much to be desired.

The fact of the matter is I *crag* hate MMOs and everything they have ever tried to be but the carrot at the end of the *crag* stick is far too alluring to lose my attention for long.

Which system, the one that allows endgame characters to scale to your level to assist in leveling? From what I know, that did ease things a little, but I highly doubt it radically changed the amount of time it takes to get to 75.

If you really hate the way MMOs are designed, and believe that WoW's progression is tedius, I highly suggest not getting involved in FFXI; WoW is a casual game compared to FFXI. While it does have some cool story elements and interesting boss fights, in the end, the variety in other games is far greater (Based on FFXI's endgame content compared to WoW's raids, it seems as though WoW has much more to do in terms of endgame content), and I highly doubt the trek to 75 is worth it.

I'm only saying this for your own sanity. If you think you can manage it, try it out; know that FFXI has no quests to mask the grind, however.

Quest are sugar coating.

The fact is that I'm not paying two *crag*' monthly fees and whether or not I like it WoW is the only game on the market I'm willing to pay for on a consistent basis.

At best I'll take the free month and never play it again.
