PROLOGUE

It would be a day to remember.

Francis stared out his window idly, watching the countless raindrops hit the ground, each one leaving a small, wet mark. In a way, he mused, it was like the world as a whole: each person made their own mark, and all these marks came together to form a puddle. There was a moral in there somewhere, he knew.

He turned away from the window and went back to the brightly glowing screen before him, his eyes following the one word that crossed it. Yes…today, it would all begin.

“This is hi-technicaaaaaaaaaal!” Francis yelled out.

Hario stiffened slightly as, out of the corner of his eye, he saw someone following him. Taking care not to show any sign that he had noticed, he continued walking calmly toward the bar, known to the regulars as Off-Topic, for reasons no one could quite fathom.

One of those regulars, ? Block, was already there. Hario took a seat next to him and ordered a drink.

“Someone’s been following me,” Hario said to ? Block, making sure that no one else could hear them. The block discreetly turned slightly so he could see the door. “Looks like a Troll to me,” he grunted, turning back to his friend. “There’ve been a lot of them getting into here lately.”

Hario nodded. “Yeah, Francis has really been easing up on the security.”

The barkeeper, Logan, put down Hario’s drink. “Here you go,” he said. “So, you guys talking about the Trolls?”

“Yes,” ? Block replied. “I heard about a particularly bad one outside the borders of Digibutter…his name’s Evangel. Won’t be long now before he comes here too…”

Hario and Logan laughed sardonically. “Well, if we’re lucky, Francis’ll keep that from happening,” Hario commented. He lowered his voice. “But just between us,” he muttered, glancing around, “I heard from an inside source that Francis is planning to appoint several knights. These guys are going to be called ‘Moderators’…no idea who they’re going to be, though,” he added, shrugging.

The door opened suddenly, and a hulking, familiar turtle stomped in. Everyone recognized him as Bowser.

“All right, all of you, listen up!” the Koopa roared. “Word around the street is that there’s been some IMPOSTOR going around the streets! So if you see someone who looks like me who’s not me…uh…IT’S NOT ME!” With a roar, he stormed out.

Logan raised an eyebrow. “…Well, that was interesting,” he commented.

? Block stood up. “I’ve got to get home,” he announced. “You know how the streets are toward blocks like me at night…see you guys tomorrow,” he said.

Hario and Logan nodded their goodbyes, watching the block head out. They turned back to one another.

“That’ll be 50 coins for the drink, please.”

“What? That’s ridiculous! Who would buy a drink for 50 coins?!”

“Why didn’t you look at the price beforehand?” Logan asked wryly. Hario glared at the Boo before reaching into his pockets and taking out the large sum of money.

“South of Nintendo.com. You can’t miss it.”

“Thank you…you seem quite comfortable with betraying your peers. Why is this?”

The Digibutter member smirked savagely. “Because I was bored, of course.”

=O Already, before the first real chapter, even, we are introduced to one of the villains. Who could it be?

NOTE: I chose the villains depending on certain factors. If you turn out to be a villain, it doesn't mean that I don't like you, it means that you would make a good villain.

The real chapters will be longer, obviously.

Suspenseful. This is the first FF I've actually enjoyed by the first bit of plot, probably because it involves real members. Which is completely awesome.
