Well, there's heroes classified as "Silent Protagonist," and such include Crono, Serge, Mario (only in RPGs), Luigi (only in M&L), and a long line of Heroes from the Dragon Quest series. The only way Mario would speak in an RPG would be if it starred Luigi. |

Mario never talked and he never will (except the crappy Mario cartoons and the such) simply because most do not want him to talk. It would give him a set personality, and I, for one, do not want to see Mario as with one personality. |

He does? Well I know he has the sound clips and he says something about Potatoes every time he's explaining something.
Yup... but Mario does talk. What do you think he's doing when you pick a word off of a list or have to type something in... like please 5 times |=|
He just isn't as vocal as the rest of the heroes. |

What I mean by "he talks" is that he opens his mouth and words(?) come out in those games. |

The main character in Nintendo's games doesn't talk because of two reasons...
They either want you to feel like the main character and reading the text yourself gives you a sense of being in the moment instead of watching it happen.
or...
they plan to have the series go on for a long time and they could only use the same actor for so long and trying to replicate him would be very difficult, so in every mario game or every few we'd notice a slight voice tone change. |
