I beat him when I was 7-ish too. I just did the entire game in order for the first time. >.>
I rented the game so much with different saves already on the cart that I'd played the entire game out of order. |

I had some difficulty (probably because I rushed through the game) but It became much easier when I used the Lakitu Character (His special move, Cloud 9 made it much easier to avoid damage) |
