there are 5 types of people when it comes to the economics of MMORPGs.

1. The beggers, scroungers, and scavengers. These people will cheat, lie, steal, and beg for money, rather than "earning" it themselves.

2. The gullible. They will buy anything for whatever price it sells for if they have the money, and will sell items at very low prices, thinking people will actually care.

3. The hagglers. They will set items they're selling at insane prices, then haggle with buyers until they both reach a deal... usually, the buyer gets tired out by the haggler's incessant haggling, so they'll just take the best offer. The hagglers will also stay in shops and bother the sellers until they either kick them out somehow, or reach a deal.

4. The clueless. They'll go around asking for the value of items, and will ATTEMPT to get good deals, but truly know nothing about economics.

5. The informed intelligent. They know how the economy works, knows the different kinds of people, and the prices of each item.

A simple way to calculate the value of an item is to take it's base price (what you would get by selling it to an NPC), then add to it the amount of time it took to find it (the amount of time you were DELIBERATELY searching for it), which will be calculated differently for each game... any equation is good, but find a good ratio of minutes to currency.

Tricks:
- People are attracted to even numbers... so as you haggle, throw them odd numbers, like 33, 57, etc. They will be more likely to settle on a deal when you finally give them a solid, even number.

- People are in the shops for self benefit, and only self benefit... but it CAN be fairly boring sitting in a shop all day waiting for someone to buy your overpriced item... so wait as long as you can before haggling with a person. If possible, come in many times and request that the seller "hold" the item for you, and haggle with them in equal intervals until they give in.

- If you are a seller, then ask your buyer what THEY would be willing to pay for it. Then tell them what you would sell it for if they were willing to buy it. Work from there.

- If you are a buyer, first ask the shopkeeper if they are willing to lower the price for you... if they are, then proceed to tell them the max amount you are willing to buy.

- The seller does not know how much money you have on you, in most cases... if you absolutely have to resort to this, then simply tell them that you're short on money and you can't go above a certain price. If they refuse, come back later and raise the price you are willing to pay a little more.

- Buy low, sell high... and if you're going to borrow money, borrow from a FRIEND, not some random guy on the street.

that is all.

Shut up. If you want to go complain about society and be emo, do it in another topic, not mine.
