If you had to choose only ONE type of Pokemon to build your ENTIRE team out of, and can ONLY use that ONE type for the WHOLE game... which would you choose?
Wellllll....
Assume you're playing... er, let's go with LeafGreen/FireRed.
Assume Pokemon can be dual-type. (Example, if you pick Rock, they don't have to all be JUST Rock-type. Geodude is Rock/Ground, and Geodude would still be useable.)
Assume catching them is not an object, because you will be provided with your low-level 6-Pokemon team.
Assume you can have duplicates. (Example, there aren't many Steel-types, so you could have multiple Magnemites, multiple Steelixes, etc.)
Assume a small allowance for HM moves. (Example, if none of your, say, Grass-types can learn Strength or Surf, you can get one Pokemon for Strength and one Pokemon for Surf but you can never use them in a fight.)
So, take your pick.
I pick Water, because Water is one of my favorite types, and seems most versatile and fast-growing to me. There are lots of choices, with Water, Water/Poison, Water/Electric, Water/Fighting, Water/Psychic, and Water/Ice... you could have six very different Pokemon united by the Water-type.
However, once I did try to go through Blue with a team of just Metapods. I started out with six level-20 Metapods, and got the first two badges with them. I stopped at Vermilion when I got bored. XD! They were in their 30's by the time I stopped. |

Did you know that Fighting type is Super-effective against the most types? Its good against normal, rock, steel, ice, and dark! thats 5 types! |

I know F.E.A.R. includes Ratata, Endevor, Quick Attack, and some item. |

I'd have to go with dark.
There are two ghost/dark combos available in Diamond, so yeah.
Even in FireRed/LeafGreen, I'd go with dark. Just because it's a great type, IMO. |

I'd probably go with Water. There are lots of dual types that can get around water's weaknesses. If it was D/P, yay for Empoleon! I like Whiscash too.
I have been meaning to try to play a game with an entire team full of Skitty, though. |
