No, we just basically write in small lettering "A post with less than ten characters is probably spam. Yours has <insert number less than ten here>."

Well, you see, everythin that is not between ['s and ]'s and that are alphanumeric characters are considered as "characters". So the characters between the IMG tags are considered as characters.

For example, you could post only one image and that would be more than 10 characters.

I THINK...

I'm pretty sure Mandew is right about this. The only cases where posting only an image would be stopped by the character limit is if it had a really short URL (like a tinypic image) and was posted in General Discussion, where the limit is 20.

It's possible, but I haven't personally. It WOULD stop a noob from posting just "lol", and when they get the message, if they're noobish enough, they'd ask what "spam" was, get an answer, and that could stop somebody really noobish from spamming the forums without realizing what spam is.

I think you could maybe rework it so that this feature is attached automatically when you join, and can be removed when Francis is sure that you know what spamming is and have read the rules. Really, this feature shouldn't be to stop spam, because it won't. It's bypassed extremely easily, and there are problems, like non-spammy 9 or 8-character posts. But it can be used to tell a newbie not to post only "lol" or "hi", and might even teach them what spam is.
