Nintendo has been my favorite game company since the first system I ever got (NES).
But recently, all Nintendo seems to care about are the people who DON'T play video games, and it's starting to really tick me of.
First things first, at E3, I was pumped to see what was going to be announced for the Wii. Major titles like Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Mario Galaxy were mere side items to the Wii Fit. I don't know about you, but I'm more of a hardcore gamer, I don't play games by LEANING TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT. Who will most likely buy this "game"? OLD PEOPLE! Our moms and dads, who have no idea what a game really is. They should have announced and focused on games that aren't for flippin' soccer moms.
Second, the delay of Super Smash Bros. Brawl is a little suspicious. Why? Because the closer it gets to spring, the more the SOCCER MOMS start appearing! They're bringing Brawl down to the level of SOCCER MOMS! Don't worry, I'm getting it, but they better not make it "Family and Soccer Mom Friendly".
Third, look at the difficulty of recent games by Nintendo. Zelda, especially. Twilight Princess was easy, and Phantom Hourglass was easy. Why were they that easy? Nintendo wants our grandparents to play!
Nintendo needs to sit down, shut up, and listen to what the fans want, not what the SOCCER MOMS want! More games for the hardcore crowd! STOP FOCUSING ON THE ELDERLY AND NON-GAMERS! They screwed up again, and are going to be in last place for the console wars if this crap isn't stopped. |

Funny you should mention this today. Listen to what Iwata had to say about this during the announcement of Monster Hunter 3 for Wii: http://www.sharewatch.com/story.php?storynumber=49593
Quote: | In unveiling the exclusive deal with the influential game developer, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said that the company is now "entering the third phase of its strategy, aimed at expanding the game player population." "With the release of the Nintendo DS portable game console and Wii stand-alone game machine, we managed to lure those who have never played games or those who have stopped playing games to play them," Iwata said.
"I understand that some experts argue that our success is short-lived and temporary. So, we now need to make efforts to constantly expand the player base by offering services and titles that can appeal not only to those who have never played games but also to those who play them hard," he said. |
I think Nintendo knows they have gone a little too far in the newbie direction, and they are ready to meet the needs of all gamers even us hardcore people. The "third stage" of their strategy. |

Consider this:
The casual gaming audience is much, MUCH broader than the hardcore gamers. Nintendo is, first and foremost, a company; thus, they are more focused on making money. Now, then, what do you think they're going to do: attempt to please a niche market - which, by the way, they attempted to do with the GameCube and failed - or appeal to the mass market and rake in the cash?
Be happy with what you have; hell, there are more hardcore titles out than I thought there'd be. If you honestly think there aren't enough, you aren't looking hard enough. |

Hear hear. I have been a gamer forever. It also ruins everyone's holiday vacation by delaying Brawl. |

They should continue to make easy games but still try to evolve. They have already focused on the "Old people" and the "Other" genre (wii fit, G-Touch Generations), but they need to try to gt more third party developers to work with wii. They need more wide released games. Instead of just having good games come out for just Xbox and PS3, they should be on wii. |
