Year 4400 A.D.

The world has changed. Not so much the world, actually... but rather the people, and the way they live life. Humans, for ages, have used the phrase "Life is a game"... for this civilization, it is.

That's all you're getting from me for now.

more tomorrow... I still have a lot to think through before I can finally put it down Wink

Quote:
In 3020 A.D., a man was being tried for murder, and he plead innocent. His defending statement was "it's not my fault, death is just a reality... so death is reality's fault!". Such a stupid statement... but then again, such a stupid government. The president then illegalized reality, and sentenced all those participating in it to death. A good 100,000 people were tried and killed before he realized that this was wrong, and so he illegalized all laws against reality. It was soon found that all laws were against reality, and because of this, chaos ensued, and hundreds of thousands were killed. Eventually, the president said "screw it", and fired every single missile he had at once, killing off 99% of the population. The remaining population was a small group of scientists in Australia who agreed to build a time machine, go back in time, and kill the damned idiot that started all of this. They did so, and for 900 years, there were no more outrageous killings. But then, another fool said the same exact thing in court, claiming reality was the one to blame. Thank goodness for us, a more intelligent president was the head of the country... but not very much more intelligent. He gathered the most intelligent scientists in the world, and the biggest game producers known to man, and he put them in the same company, and they came out with the world's largest, most realistic massively multi-person online game. People liked it. People loved it. People LIVED it.

I'm liking it so far. Dunno about you guys though.

Quote:
This game was THE game. That was it's name... The Game. It simply was THE game. If you didn't play it, you have never played ANY games, so far as everyone on the planet was concerned. A major problem was that those who played the game for long amounts of time slowly... died. They had no food, no water, no sleep, but didn't know they needed it, since all senses were connected to the game. If you died while connected to The Game, your mind was copied, converted into digital, readable data, and was preserved by the game for eternity... most literally meaning, that if you died while playing the game... you would not indeed die... but you would never die again. There are three major groups of people in the world. The Onliners, who spend their entire life in the game, the Offliners, who do just the opposite, and the Inbetweens, who try to balance their online and offline lives. In the game, there are three other major groups. Coders, Mappers, and Workers. Coders coded things for the game... usually small objects, or game elements. Mappers made entire locations, but didn't usually mess with action scripts. Workers did not work with any game code, but instead worked within the game. They hunted in-game animals to sell on the market, became bounty hunters and killed players for money, or any other assortment of jobs. Naturally, Coders and Mappers run The Game. Also naturally, there aren't that many of them. Mappers are far more common, as it is a simpler and easier job, and can be Inbetweeners. Coders, however, are usually Onliners, because their jobs take up the majority of their entire lives...

It's really important that you know all this stuff before the story takes off... or else you simply won't understand it at all.

I prefer to put all the thick, juicy info like this in pre-chapter 1, as sort of a history and lingo lesson before the actual stories start.

I'm not one to read long paragraphs about the info, I like learning about the story through action.

This vaguely reminds me of 'The Game' o-o; Actually it's completely like it.

2/10
Just sounds to copy writish
But you tried to think of a new topic to behold,
So you get one extra point,
I'd give a better rating if it wasn't EXACTLY like it,
Except this has less detail...
