Yes, Mario is allowed powerups, super/Darkspine sonic are cheap.
Even though Darkspine isnt a super form, I totally dont/cant find sprites of him XD
well, reality, ill allow sonic to go super if i let them use the special (green bar) but other then that, o-o super sonic wont be seen in the battle
