Like on comedy central, they'll censor comedians.
But why? You know they're saying shit, ass, cock, bitch, and tits... the beeping really does nothing.
And if you're offended by my language, then tough. The world is full of foul language and foul people. Grow up. |

I have to agree with you on this. It's not like it makes a difference. Also, if you don't want kids to see it, send 'em out or block the station... |

Actually hearing certain word triggers real reactions in your brain. Which triggers certain responses. That response is interpreted differently by different people, so to avoid offending anyone, it is bleeped out. The bleeping basically flattens out any huge sensory spikes you would experience.
The real reason words are censored is because a majority of the American public wants them to be. A family has a right to watch television and not hear words they dont want to hear. Private television channels like HBO are not censored because they are opt-in.
Now in this day and age, there should be technological capabilities to turn the bleeping on or off at will. |

True, eneryone knows what they're saying. But the fact that they censor makes it "acceptable" |

I'm undecided on that part - I do think that, when your kids watch TV, they shouldn't accidentally hear them swear words and then say them all over, and although we do have freedom of speech, we don't have to let people say anything. It is a question of niveau, it's worse enough that people start every sentence with a swear word and address each other with the aforementioned swears (In my school, if there was a censor device attached to every student, there'd be more bleeping then conversation.) |

And beyond the subject of KIDS MIGHT SEE THEM.
They're KIDS.
They're not suppose to be on this forum.
Teenages are.
Oh and being called a nerd, noob, or any form of that insults me. On the internet.
Why?
Hell if I know. |

Well, if there's a TV program that has language like that, I don't really think little kids should be watching it anyway... so instead of censorship, parents should be trying harder to keep their kids away from that.
I guess bad parenting isn't uncommon, though. |

Interesting this hasn't been put into effect. We definitely have that ability. |

I've been around swear words since 6th grade (I'm in 10th grade now), so they don't really bother me anymore. |
