The dark theme is exactly why I continued playing the game.
Dark = EPIC. |

Well, yeah, whether you like something if it is dark is up to you. But no one can deny that SPM is more dark then the other Mario games. |

Yeah, I've been wondering the same thing. (The following link is full of spoilers: ) MarioWiki's article on Mimi however disproves this theory.
Copied directly from Mariowiki (ending spoiler: ) If Mario flips to 3-D while Mimi is "True Mimi", one could see gears inside of her, possibly meaning that she is a robot, a fact that is further implied by her violent explosions upon defeat. However, near the end of the game, Mimi's love, along with Count Bleck's, Tippi's, and O'Chunks', repair the Pure Hearts, meaning that Mimi is not a robot, since robots can't have feelings, that means that the her arachnid form may be Mechanical implants.
HOWEVER, this still leaves the question 'WHY does she have gears in her head when she IS NOT a robot?'
The myth lives on. |
...I know this is lame, but maybe it's a parody of the thought process? You know, the wheels turning in her head...(Would explain why we can't see any for O'Chunks. xD ) |

I actually liked the dark theme. It was much better then the bright, cheerful theme of all the other mario games. |

Well, maybe she can shape shift by using those gears?
I dunno. |

Whether Mimi is a robot or not is unknown. Nintendo made that guy in the bar say she's a failed Pixl experiment. Pixls are somewhat mechanical, aren't they? They were created by the Ancients.
Anyway, we are getting off topic, as we were talking about the morbid or dark theme in Super Paper Mario. |

Yeah.
I think Mario not crying about the loss of his brother is dark.
And all the Heroes' "deaths". |
