Quote: | Check out these enhancements to the Photo Channel, which will be available in December, 2007.
Personalize your Wii Menu by making one of your favorite digital images from an SD memory card as the Photo Channel icon. The Wii console will replace MP3 compatibility with the ability to play AAC files, which provide a greater sound quality than an MP3 of the same size. This new compatibility will work with MP4 audio files in the .m4a format. Additionally, you can now choose to have the songs play back in a random order. *Wii consoles sold in retail stores starting in December 2007 should include AAC file support.
*For Wii Console owners without the AAC file compatibility, you can download the updated version of the Photo Channel from the Wii Shop Channel starting in early December 2007. Please note that once you download the updated Photo Channel (ver 1.1), you will no longer be able to play MP3 format music files.
Additionally, consumers who purchase a Wii console with the updated Photo Channel (ver. 1.1) already installed will not be able to install the previous version to support MP3 playback. |
AAC is an audio format, the same one that Apple uses for iTunes (except, iTunes uses encrypted AAC, which only works in iTunes or on an iPod) But really, WTF? Why would they REMOVE mp3 support? Why is Nintendo so stupid sometimes? |

That's new to me. Is it a file format that's only on iTunes? If it is, maybe I can put in "Pokémon, Go!" on the SD Card! |

No, it is not specific to iTunes. There are converters available, but why would anyone want to convert their music just to put it on Wii? What could Nintendo's reasoning possibly be?
And this probably rules out any Music Channel. |

Maybe Nintendo and Apple might release a free converter program for the music files, for use with their SD Cards. How? I don't know, I'm just a helper nerr! I help out how I want, when I want, WHO I want! |

Well, say goodbye to listening nice tunes while watching your photos. I don't want to take the trouble of changing filetypes and whatever. |

You want MP3s, get a PSP! I got one, and I'm okay. |

Sorry about that. Maybe Nintendo's doing it to us to be a real pain in our keisters, or maybe they're doing it to provide us with better music quality. Besides, I hardly use the MP3 Playback on the Photo Channel, so it wouldn't make a difference to me, since we already have MP3 Playback in Excite Truck. |

I have a feeling this might remove MP3 playback in Excite Truck too... not sure though. |

This isn't as bad as it sounds... do people really NEED to play music through the Photo Channel? You can still listen to MP3s through games that support it, like Excite Truck, and the upcoming Endless Ocean. Although it is kinda dumb to REMOVE MP3... hey, maybe an MP3 Channel's in the works? You never know... think of the weird wavy musical video-things Nintendo can think up. |
