Well, my art teacher has allowed me to borrow a very high-quality camera to make a fim for my city's upcoming film festival. I'm entering the amateur-level competition (18 and under). The only problem is that I need an idea for a short film. It must be under 30 minutes, and it has to be turned in by March 31.
The only rule that I'm going to have trouble with is:

I don't know how to get permission from artists to use their songs.

I just found out that my good friend's cousin is in a semi-local band that tours in the northeastern US, and she might be able to gt me hookedup with some fitting music if needed. |

Hm...
So it can be of any subject at all?
Should it be a documentary, commercial or a story?
Perhaps you should make something about butterflies. Though that would be a bit hard; Butterflies are not incredibly easy to find this time of year.
Maybe something about a doll coming to life. You picked the name Geno so that's bound to fit with you, so to say. Not a horror story though, make it a fun story.  But maybe it isn't too original... you decide.
I can think up more ideas if you want. |

I suggest a powerful narritive that teaches the audience something, while still being entertaining. For example, some kid is climbing a tree. Suddenly, he discovers...something. He takes it. Then the mafia comes and does stuff, looking for it. However, they're rather incompitent, like the burglers from Home Alone. And the kid learns a lesson at the end or something... |

I don't really know how to really bring a doll to life on camera. It would require animatronics or CGI... And my budget is... well, $0.

Hmmm.. Well, I don't want to copy the idea of another movie. The judges look for original ideas, and base a lot of the voting off of it. |

Well, like having two bumbling guys go through idiotic things while chasing a kid is kind of... Home Alone... ish.
I've decided that I want to make a darker-type movie. I'm going to be filming during winter, and there's bound to be lots of snow. But I really want to have a good meaning in it, and if that fails, a really... unsettling plot. |
