Can anyone who breeds/bred Pokemon on G/S/C often explain to me how stats are bred? Or perhaps more simply, how to breed the best stats I can, i.e. a Squirtle with a slighly higher amount of Defense than normal [than other Squirtles]? Or, say, how Abra and its evolutions usually have crap Defense, is there a way I can breed it so that it might actually inherit substantially less sucky Defense stats from the parent that isn't an Abra?
And does anyone know what the basic egg groups are?

I don't think stats are bred, but natures can, so you should try get a nature that increases Defense for a Squirtle.
www.serebii.net was the very good information for your pokemon needs though ^_^
If you want High Defense, you can also EV train, also explained on serebii ^_^ |

I'm not entirely sure, but I think it has something to do with IVs, which are an unseen stat that I think determines your Pokemon's base stats.
In addition, you can use EVs to artificially enhance how much your Pokemon's stat increases with each level up. Every Pokemon you defeat gives the Pokemon a certain amount of EVs. You can have 510 EVs total, with a 255 maximum in any one stat. |

Think she's talking about G/S/C and if I recall correctly, EVs, Natures, and the like were not around back then.
Err... I mean...

I know natures were not. Or if they were, they were certainly not visible. |

I've never bothered with EVs, so I wouldn't know.
Never got a chance to play competively, so I just played through the game for fun and not math... Now that there's WiFi, however... |

Me too, usually, but it's just randomly got to me that I never beat the Pika Cup (I think that's the one? The one with the lvl 15-20 Pokemon?) in the classic Pokemon Stadium. So, I've taken it upon myself to learn some of the game mechanics and build myself an awesome team between breeding on G/S/C and training on Yellow.
I was just about to ask if EV's still worked on the earlier Pokemon games, since the rest of the site seemed to deal with R/S/E and onward, but you already answered that for me. Pwn. |
