Reggie "wouldn't be surprised at all" if voice chat appears on the Wii. They just need to get off their butt and actually do it.

IGN wrote:
According to Fils-Aime, the system is clearly capable of this function, and Nintendo is constantly adding and tweaking features of the Wii system through system updates. The issue boils down to locking down the specific technologies and getting the specific peripheral to allow voice chatting.

Fils-Aime noted that, since Nintendo found this tech and peripheral on the Nintendo DS, he "wouldn't be surprised at all" if the feature appeared on Wii. "It's something we value and constantly look at."

It would be nice. Of course, it would mean I'd have to sacrifice one of the two USB Devices, if it ends up becoming a USB Wireless Voice Chat device. HOWEVER, if it were to be supported through the DS-to-Wii Connection, maybe the ability to do Voice Chat will be plausible.

So uh ...

... how should the peripheral look like?

NO. FOR GOD'S SAKE - NO !

Do you know how it looks on XBOX LIVE ? I don't think Nintendo will introduce a fee if they'd make it, that's not m,y problem. But the people. Don't say "Oh, no, you nonbeliever, on a Wii Network, people would stop eing racist, disguasting, arseholish [...] pricks and won't abuse their anonymity.". They will. And in the worst case it's become as bad as XBOX LIVE. So I am fully against that.

Also, what if you'd have to put ina peripheral via USB ? It's not like anyone uses these ports. Also, they could make it Bluetooth-controlled - The Wiimote CAN play different sounds in a rather good quality, after all, so they might be able to expand on that.

EDIT: How is it a limitation not being able to voicechat ? Sure, its faster then typing, but people just abuse it for
a) Saying your voice sounds gay
b) Questioning your age
c) Questioning your sexual orientation
d) Implying to have a sexual relationship with one or all of your parents
e) Saying that they are so good at the game
f) Stating e) when they loose and then accuse you of cheating
g) Randomly scream mostly racist and sexual insults at you
h) Rabid raging
i) All of the above
j) All of the above at the same time
k) All of the above in double volume

And I bet Suckurai and the others won't get at least a voice banhammer or a blacklist. I'd personally just want to enjoy a good game of Brawl (when I get internet for my Wii... Gotta move out with 18.) without having to listen to the rabid ranting of some 13-year olds' ego-blowing rant using a voice distorter.

I think you're overreacting a bit about the whole idea...

I'd like to have the OPTION to use voice if I want.

If this WOULD ever happen, this is Nintendo. They'd only let you chat with friends. Durr.

You do realize that voice chat is ALWAYS optional, right?

You do realize that playing on a team is NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE without voice chat, right?

You do realize that every complaint about voice chat can EASILY be debunked, right?

I know my arguments can be easily dismantled, but this article gives them some footage, as well.

Also, I've been playing successfully in teams in Guild Wars for years and never used Teamspeak.

Yep, its called "party chat". Also voice chat might be a good idea.

You know how you can only do text messages with people on your Friends List on SSBB and Pokemon?

Yeah, you think they would open the voice floodgates?

To be honest - Yes I do. It's the sort of things humans do.

"Whoops, I solved a puzzle that opens the gate to hell" - Or what was it in a TV Trope Wiki Hilarious description ? "Mystical Indian tribe (is there any other kind?) opens gate to world of darkness, "evil" slips through, gate is closed, parts of the key to the gate are hidden, and evil is waiting. Sadly, the Indians weren't smart enough to destroy the key and be done with the whole thing. Seriously, why would you keep a key to the world of darkness? "Oh, dear me, we're all out of sugar. Honey, could you ask the creatures in the world of darkness if we could borrow some?"
Review of Alone in the Dark"

So, yes, in the tradition of Suckurai, I think it's feasible.

Oy. What you said kinda brings back memories of Yu-Gi-Oh, and how little Yugi solved the Millenium Puzzle, which unleashed a neverending swarm of evil through different events, like Duelist Kingdom, Battle City, the Leviathan incident, and even in "Dawn of the Duel!"

Really? It just reminded M'aiq of the movie "Little Nemo".

I can understand if it's friends-only. The things you hear on XBox Live are just awful.
