If the stages are just a bunch of little chunks of land, how is that considered a galaxy?

A galaxy is a mass of grouped stars. I see no masses of grouped stars in this game. The closest thing to it would be solar systems, and that would be a set of planets orbiting a larger star. I saw none of that, either.

Think about it. >_>

Well, how does a polar bear know what apples is?

The point is, it's a cartoony video game. :p If we apply logic in that manner, most of those planets are too small to even have the strong gravitational pull on Mario that they do.

I may be incorrect saying this (but oh well, I'm saying it anyway), I am pretty sure Mass is what determines gravity, not volume, maybe those tiny planets were really dense. Laughing

I just think of it like this. If we really called it what it was, the game would be called Super Mario Planetoid Cluster. That would become very annoying very quickly.

No, that would be awesome.
Imagine Mario sitting in the captain's chair of Spaceship Mushroom.
"Hmm, the atmospheric levels of this planet seem hospitable"
"Set your fireballs to stun"
"Beam me up, Yoshi"

START TREK: MARIO MIX

I seriously doubt I would buy that.

Yeah, but...

It could still be called Super Mario Galaxy. Sunshine was never mentioned in SMS. The number 64 never played a big role in S64. Couldn't they at least called these so-called galaxies "systems"?

In each observatory there is a galaxy. In each galaxy there are a few solar system like things. In each solar system like thing there are several small planets. If the game used the correct amount of stars and solar systems in each galaxy there would be more levels than you can count and that wouldn't fit on the game disk. And then you would only have one observatory, and there would be no purpose for the adventure field you can walk around in.

I'm pretty sure you can see stars in the backgrounds of some galaxies. And think of it this way: Earth is in a galaxy, but during the day we can't see any stars (except the sun). So you never know...
